My friend and I stayed at Dotty’s for a weekend catch up, it was perfect, with a bedroom and en-suite each. The location was ideal for walking the Cleveland Way, one day to Saltburn and the other to Runswick Bay. The local pubs and cafes were great. The accommodation was clean, tidy, comfortable and as described. We were lucky to bump into Trudie (the owner) twice, who was very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend to others, with sufficient energy and fitness for the hill to and from the car park. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Excellent Accommodation - Brilliant Host Positive: Fabulous location in the centre of the village. Met our host Trudie several times, and she was very helpful. Water, milk and biscuits left for us. The kitchen appears to be a recent refit, and fully equipped. Both bedrooms had en-suite, and there was also a downstairs loo. Parking permit was provided for the council run facility at the top of the village, but able to park in the village itself on arrival and departure to unload/load our bags. Cleveland Way is accessible from the village, and we enjoyed a walk along the cliff tops to Runswick Bay, where you can catch the X4 back to the main road at the top of Staithes. Negative: Didn't impact our stay but be aware if you have difficulty walking as the car parking (permit provided) is up a very steep hill or a pathway with multiple steps, although this would be the case for the majority of rental properties in the village.

Fantastic place to stay in a perfect location! Highly recommend! Positive: Quirky and cosy cottage - immaculate throughout, felt like a much loved home very well equipped with everything you could want for a holiday self catering . Perfect for two couples or as in our case visiting family in the area who could stay over with us - bedrooms very comfortable both with en-suite facilities. Loved it - we will be back! ❤️ Negative: Nothing it was perfect for us - but be aware there are steep steps to the cottage and in the cottage to the bedrooms - not a problem for us but not suitable for anyone struggling with walking.

Excellent long weekend break in a great location. Positive: Two separate double rooms each with its own facilities. Excellent for two couples sharing the apartment. Good sized, well equipped kitchen. Comfortable lounge. Lots of eating options within a short distance. Negative: Access via steep steps could be a problem for some people. It didn’t affect us greatly, although a bit tricky with cases and bags on arrival and departure.

A beautiful apartment in a stunning location Positive: Dotty's Coastal Retreat is a fabulous place in the beautiful village of Staithes on the North Yorkshire coast. The accommodation is clean, spacious and provides luxuries touches and high quality appliances. We will return. Negative: Our only disappointment was the AI bot replying services which was not very helpful. Immediately automatically responding an early check in and late check out requests were not possible. However on arrival at the accommodation the host was more than willing to welcome us into the accommodation and also gave slightly later check out. We will return. The AI bot is clearly set up to answer requests with negative response.

Good places to visit nearby. Positive: The location was good for us though it would not have been good for those with any mobility issues as the car park is a steep walk up the hill from the house. You can park for loading and unloading. The bedding was lovely and the towels were good. The property was cosy and had been heated in preparation for our arrival. Negative: There was a really bad smell as you entered the property, emanating from the downstairs toilet which was opposite the kitchen, This made any cooking unpleasant.We tried keeping the toilet lid closed, the door closed and putting diffuser sticks in there but it would not go away. The bedrooms were very, very dark, even with all the lights on. They had very dark walls and very dark carpet, so even when all the lights were on, it was impossible to see anything inside the wardrobe. The carpet fitting was coming away from the stairs to one of the bedrooms and although there were motion lights on some of the stairs, some of them were out of use. In the photos for the property on Booking.com, there was at least one white wall, which would have made a huge difference. It felt dangerously dark. There could have been more table lamps in the main sitting/dining area, so you don't have to use the big ceiling lights which always give off an unwelcoming light. Torches should be provided for going outside at night along the ark passage near the road and going upstairs to the bedrooms.

Positive: Beautiful standard of accommodation,well thought out and fab first impressions as you walk through the door, very clean, everything you need for your stay, we loved the bedrooms their decor and furnishings, both with ensuite which was great for our family. In a fabulous location in Staithes overlooking the main street, all local amenities within walking distance. We throughly enjoyed our stay. Also above Dotty's Tea Rooms which we called into get some scones to takeaway which were delicious too. Negative: Nothing not to like the only thing is to be careful on the steps going up and down to the bedrooms as some are narrower than others but this is because of the age of the property but there are hand rails, steps are carpeted and lights at floor level which go on as you walk up and down again a lovely touch.

Positive: We had a wonderful time here and would highly recommend. Staithes is beautiful and Dotty's Retreat is a perfect place to stay. Right in the heart of the lower village with the sea visible from the bedrooms, it's exceptionally clean, comfortable and welcoming. For a small village, there is a great selection of places to eat and other independent shops, plus lovely walks. Negative: Didn't dislike anything! But obviously be aware of the very steep access into and out of the village.

Comfy and well located Positive: Good location but difficult to get luggage to/from front door due to narrow streets and extremely step hill out to Council car park. Closer to harbour and local pubs. Two separate double bedrooms with own bathrooms. Very homely lounge. Great kitchen, but it was needed as nowhere to get breakfast was open. Negative: No air conditioning. Not usually a problem in North Yorkshire, but summer was VERY hot this year.

Enjoyed very much stay in cottage. Comfortable with good facilities and very central.

Clean, comfy and homely Positive: Really clean and comfortable, great central location and everything you needed and more! Extra touches like toiletries, fresh milk, bottled water,ready made ice,tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits, totally unexpected but appreciated!

Fabulous stay at Dottys Positive: The whole unit is fitted and decorated beautifully. Loved the quirkyness of the 2 separate staircases leading off from the living area each to a double room with ensuite. Slapbang in the middle of staithes. Loved the fresh milk and biscuits ready for a cup of tea upon our arrival The lights in the stairs very needed and appreciated Negative: If you are not fully mobile the little trek up from the street could be a challenge ..some high steps.

Lovely, well equipped apartment in historic fishing village of Staithes. Positive: The apartment is in a lovely location, very near the bay and the pubs in Staithes. It was great having 2 en-suite bedrooms, and the living room was really spacious. It was very well equipped with thoughtful touches like milk, tea, coffee and biscuits. A parking pass was provided so we didn’t have to pay to park. Trudy was so friendly and helpful. She even arranged that we could use the charging point in the residents part of the carpark. Trudy also runs Dotty’s Tea Room below the apartment, which is well worth a visit or two! Excellent cake! Negative: The stairs are very steep as you’d expect in an old property and it’s a steep hill to walk up to the car park, but we were able to drive down to unload and load our bags at the start and end of our stay.

Great location great property great hosts Positive: Excellent. Home from home. Clean, spacious and the hosts had covered every possible need. A great little touch was milk and biscuits on arrival. Negative: Nothing. Couldn’t complain about a single thing.

Was a lovely cottage, right in the centre of the village but still very peaceful. Pub opposite which did a family friendly pub quiz one night. Lovely deli tucked away just around the corner. My wife is celiac, there were loads of options which was great. Would definitely recommend Dotty’s Cottage….had a lovely stay!

We had a tiny issue on arrival (no fault of anyone), and Trudi did everything she could to find a solution, and all was resolved as soon as it could be… The accommodation is warm, clean, cosy and welcoming - in a fantastic location in lovely Staithes - thank you!

Dotty’s cottage was perfect for us. Right in the heart of the village, a minute’s walk to the harbour, cliffs and sea. Very comfortable lounge area, a kitchen with all amenities, two very comfy beds with top quality linen and fresh smelling towels. We love it in Staithes, especially in the winter when it is quieter. Wonder up the little side paths and steps behind the houses and you get some wonderful views over the quaint rooftops. Highly recommend Dotty’s Tea Rooms below.

Hidden jem. Positive: The small touches were amazing. Supplies and info left out made our stay so memorable that we are planning our next visit. Even the staff in the cafe below were so helpful when couldn't figure out were the entrance was. Negative: Only issue was finding the entrance but that was down to just using the pin position on Google maps and thinking the entrance was on the main street

Comfortable apartment in the heart of Staithes Positive: Communication and information provided by Host and Stay was exceptional. The location of the property within Staithes again couldn't have been better. The apartment is well equipped with quality equipment. Negative: Appreciate that properties in the area tend to be compact and quirky but the positioning of beds in the eaves of the loft rooms make it awkward to access one side of the double beds. The car park pass we were told would be in the apartment when we arrived wasn't here. The owner said the permit hadn't arrived when we enquired and gave us money to cover the first night of parking but nothing was mentioned after that. We ended up paying for parking for the remainder of the stay. Disappointed, we had to chase the parking permit. Surely with no parking available in the immediate vicinity of the apartment, this is integral to most people's stay here.

Great place to stay for the weekend. We saw the host on check who was warm & friendly and extremely helpful especially when it came to a cafetiere! thank you so much. I would definitely recommend a stay here but be aware a few steps up to access the cottage. Everything was spotlessly clean and the kitchen very well equipped . We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful cottage close to the Harbour Positive: Wonderful location, cosy and well appointed. Easy to bring the cars down the narrow Street even on a Bank Holiday Negative: Well nothing really - except car parking info was unclear - permit for council car park for one car only - and queries about this prior to staying were not clearly answered. It is possible to book additional private parking at cost - this needs to be clearly states as essential if coming in two cars.

Positive: Staithes is a beautiful coastal village, close to many activities. Dotty coastal retreat is a relaxing place to stay and end the day. Simply wonderful. Negative: Let's be honest, the noisy seagulls might get to some people, but to me it adds to the charm of location.

Really lovely, relaxing stay at Dotty's Coastal Retreat cottage. Trudie, the landlord, checked in to ensure we had access to car parking permit from beginning of our stay. Plentiful supply of tea, coffee, milk, bottled water and biscuits! We didnt cook a meal in the cottage however the kitchen was perfectly equipped to do so if we had chosen to with double oven, bakeware, cookware and plenty of crockery, cutlery etc. Rooms and decor excellent with a lovely, pretty French feel to the place and lots of nautical charm! The tearoom below is worth a visit and we enjoyed toasties and coffee there.

Beautiful location in one of Britain’s loveliest coastal villages. The caveat to a great stay was the unnecessary bombardment of offers and info from Host & Stay. They are an agency in their own right with their own platform and way of doing things. The small print hits you with a non refundable damage insurance. Staying in literally dozens of properties and this was a first.

Positive: Excellent accommodation Trudie the owner has thought of everything. Very well appointed and very comfortable. The only negative is that you have to climb up quite a few steps to get into the property so it wouldn't suit people with mobility issues. Negative: Just the steps into the property

A stay at Dotty’s Coastal is a very mindful experience and seems to transport you back to a bygone time. Positive: This cosy property is spacious and comfortably furnished. The kitchen was well appointed and clean and the shower has good water pressure. The owner has kindly provided games and there is a television to provide some light entertainment in case of bad weather. The weather can be cold and blustery outside however, there are plenty of throws to supplement the heating inside. Negative: We were surprised how steep the walk from the village to the car park was and feel it is worth highlighting this along with the fact the steps from the road to the front door can be slippery when there is rain.

Positive: Centre of village. Nice local pubs/restaurants. Lovely owner who couldn't have been more helpful Negative: Only issue was pricing on booking.com, not sure if it's due to Host and Stay but the total outlay was much more than the initial offer on the booking.com site. I emailed Host and Stay but never received anything other than what appeared to be automated responses.

Positive: Location was very good and it was very comfortable and clean inside. Negative: 1) car park voucher not available in cottage, had to pay for car park 2) approach to entrance had rubbish and was vet dirty

Trudie is lovely and made us feel very welcome. The accommodation is very cozy and located in the heart of the village. We would highly recommend Dotty’s Coastal Retreat to anybody considering a stay in Staithes.
