The area

Located in the rural parish of Thornley-with-Wheatley, near Preston, this property offers a true countryside escape surrounded by rolling hills and open farmland. The area sits within the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, known for its scenic landscapes, walking routes and cycling trails.
With only a small number of homes nearby, the setting is peaceful, private and ideal for those looking to unwind in nature. Despite its secluded feel, you’re within easy reach of the market town of Longridge and the city of Preston, where you’ll find shops, restaurants and local attractions. The surrounding area is also popular for country pubs, farm shops and outdoor activities, making it perfect for a relaxing UK getaway.

Due to its rural location, travelling by car is recommended to make the most of your stay. The property sits on Jeffrey Hill, with easy access to nearby towns including Longridge, Clitheroe and Preston. Preston offers excellent transport links, including a major railway station on the West Coast Main Line with connections across the UK.

Public transport options in the immediate area are limited, and there are no bus stops within walking distance of the property. The nearest bus services can be accessed from Longridge, a short drive away. The closest train station is Langho, offering regional connections.

“Cosy peaceful get away on a working farm. Positive: 5 STARS Just the two of us for 3 nights, and it was exactly the peace we were after. Annie is a fantastic host — warm, thoughtful, genuinely lovely. Her husband Kev (the farmer) is straight-talking and down to earth, no airs and graces. Proper, honest hospitality from a working farm. The chalet is a real gem. Underfloor heating is perfect for the rainy nights — properly cosy and warm. Hot water bottles were left on the bed as a nice touch (not needed with the underfloor heating, but thoughtful all the same). Blankets, towels and shower stuff all provided, and it's really well decorated throughout. The setting does most of the work. The view from the chalet is breathtaking — open Bowland countryside in every direction. And the animals are a real part of the charm: a cow came right up to us in the field beside the chalet, and the chickens wandered around in our area keeping us company. Keep an eye out for the white pheasant — we spotted it, which was a real treat. And the birdlife is great for any bird watcher: barn swallows in the area and we heard tawny owls in the evenings. It's a cosy one-bed — just a double, no room for kids, so it's perfect for an adults-only escape. We also walked up Jeffrey Hill, just a couple of minutes from the farm — I went for my own spiritual reasons and it was beautiful, a genuinely special place to be. Peaceful, spotless, breathtaking. We'll be back. Negative: We had to leave 😂”

“Positive: What a lovely place to stay, inside the hut has been so thought out from functionality and visually aesthetic. It is lovely. Extras like coffee, sugar, water, biscuits etc supplied as part of the stay. The views are beautiful. Annie and Kev are so welcoming and helpful. While you have your privacy they are only a stone throw away on the farm with any needs you may have. We stayed for the eclipse it was the perfect spot. Annie kindly supplied us with glasses. Definitely recommend staying here”
