We had a fantastic stay at Craig Cottage. Its location was superb, right next to the pier in the old town with restaurants, pubs and walks aplenty on the doorstep. Despite the bustling location, the Cottage was also really quiet, being placed just behind the Main Street. The Cottage itself was really spacious (we are a family of 5 and came with our pet dog too) with beautiful original features throughout. The outdoor side was an added bonus too. It was our first stay at Cragg cottage but we’ll definitely go back!

Perfect family accommodation Positive: Location Negative: Nothing

GuestAirbnbOct 2024

Great location, in the middle of town and close to the pier and beach. Good place for kids with arcades near by and lots of restaurants. We would come back

GuestAirbnbDec 2023

No on-site parking, as listed. The parking is free at most public car parks between Oct & March. (EV chargers not commissioned west Cliff or Chrurch Street car park Dec 2023). The accommodation, however, is perfect! saying that it was a shame not to have the fuel for a roaring fire, We spent most of our time in the kitchen area, which was much warmer. the beds are uber comfortable, and the kitchen is well equipped. Free WiFi was also a positive for the ten year old and pensioner stopping with us. A quirky cottage with winding hidden staircases. Doors on the stairs help with insulation. A huge bathtub with a standard and rain shower was a delightful way to freshen up. The cottage was all decked out, ready for Christmas, which was a lovely homely touch. A very short walk brings you out just down from the famous Magpie Cafe. where you can park to unload your car before stowing it at a public car park. Everything Whitby has to offer is in easy reach.

Thoroughly enjoyed our couple of nights stay. Plenty big enough for the 4 of us. Very comfortable. Brilliant for the dog Positive: Each of us really enjoyed our stay here. Great location, right in the heart of Whitby!, lots to see and do. Very comfortable bed, brilliant outdoor furniture to enjoy eating and drinking in the lovely weather. Negative: Luckily we were able to find parking up at the top of the hill, however if that space wasn’t available it would’ve proven quite difficult to park near by which becomes a problem when taking care of the luggage.

We had a lovely stay at Cragg Cottage! The location is a peaceful oasis right in the heart of Whitby. It was a little difficult to find initially as it is not on a main road and is situated behind Henry's cocktail bar up some steps. We stopped the car in the loading bay outside the bar to take everything into the cottage then parked at the Pavilion car park 5 mins away where we left the car for the week. It was perfect for our dog with a completely enclosed beautiful garden. The steps in the cottage are steep but were fine for us, the place was lovely and clean and had everything we needed. There is only one tv and it is very small, because we had our dog we tended to spend the evenings at the cottage so a bigger tv would have been a bonus but of course we didn't come on holiday to watch tv the whole time! I would 100% recommend this cottage and we would definitely stay here again thank you for having us!

GeorgeBooking.comMay 2025

Perfect cottage in a great location located just behind the amusements. Spacious garden ideal if you take a dog, our dog Positive: Perfect central location Nice sized rooms Good facilities Spacious garden Negative: Some bedding had marks and small tears.

GuestAirbnbMay 2024

We had a wonderful stay in Whitby, the location was super central and it was great to still have a good sized secure garden for our dog. The house is full of historic charm with lovely original features.

A very quaint and cosy cottage very centrally located in Whitby. Excellent for access to the seafront and shops. Tucked behind the restaurants on the front so no need to trek up the hill. Great garden. Unfortunately the cottage wasn’t as clean as we had hoped which dampened our stay but otherwise would recommend. Worth highlighting that there are two very narrow spiral staircases which is worth bearing in mind for elderly/less mobile guests.

AndrewBooking.comJul 2024

Positive: The garden area was an awesome touch! This place was really nice! Negative: The place was mostly awesome! I booked this for my family, including my disabled mother in law. What the listing does not say is that there are stairs to get to the cottage. Then, 3 bedrooms and the bathroom are on floor 1, bedroom 4 is on floor 2. The stairs to these floors are a narrow castle kind of stair. So this is not disabled friendly. I loved the stairs, but we ended up getting an additional flat for my mother in law. Only 1 roll ot toilet paper, so bring some or find it right away. The top floor was an oven. No fans were available. It was warm out and no wind. Bought a fan and it was better.

House is in great location for visiting Whitby, however not ideal if you have non-walking children and lots of things to unpack as access to the house involves lots of steps and you cannot park a car near the entrance so have to do several trips for your bags etc. Property is also smaller than seems on photos and stairs internally are incredibly steep, again would not advise staying with small children or elderly. Property was very unclean on our arrival, pet hair all downstairs, floors had clearly not been hoovered/swept or mopped. Bathroom also needs a deep clean and was not to the standard we would expect given the £125 cleaning fee. Overall great location, smaller than expected and very unclean. Ideal for a group of adults rather than a family.

GuestAirbnbOct 2024

Great location, easy check, great time in Whitby but one toilet roll for 6 people for a weekend was a bit ambitious!

10 Cragg Cottage, Pier Rd, Whitvy Positive: The cottage is behind The Magpie, easy to find really, no parking close by tho, used harbour car park, not to far away, good location in the town for amenities. Very nice inside, feels like you could just move in. Comfortable lounge with logs available to use in the burner (which was needed in this cold weather) comfortable beds, plenty of bedrooms to choose from. Nice kitchen area. Negative: My wife's elderly parents, both 75, didn't like the tight curly stairs, but that's cottages for you. When you come out of the kitchen there is a little step up before you go down the 3 stairs, that is quite dangerous tbh, it caught all 5 of us out & drinks were spilt & people fell including myself & im fit & healthy. Wife's parents had the 1st floor double room (warm & cosy) so we had the attic double room, which would not get warm, even with an undersize radiator in the corner of the room set a 21°. The bathroom was way to small tbh, the shower is quite piddly with no power, is very noisy & also very low, im 5'10 & had to duck while showering as the overhead shower is just so low, my son also hit his head on the bathroom door frame as its so low. There was a lot of dust/cobwebs about in all the rooms, so not cleaned to well im guessing. We asked politely if we could get there earlier than the 4pm stated as we had elderly parents with us & we didn't want to hang around in the cold walking round for hours before we could get our things in & save all the extra walking to & from the car park. They said 'No'....but you can pay extra to get in earlier if you like.. £80 for 1pm, £60 for 2pm & £40 for 3pm....Also if we wanted to arrive a day or two early we could at a reduced rate....So we knew the place had been empty for a while, had not been cleaned very well, but they still wouldn't let us arrive a few hrs earlier without paying more money & they wanted us out at 10am.

Cragg Cottage is homely and located in walking distance to Whitby's attractions. It has a large, charming garden. We stayed there for a week of survey work, and it offered a suitable base to update our results in the evening, discuss the day's events in the comfortable lounge and cook an evening meal. We stayed with four people, and although it is possible to stay with six, I imagine that the space would be pretty crowded. The staircase and corridors are narrow, ceilings low and there is only one bathroom/toilet. The car cannot be brought close to the house and you have to carry luggage for at least 5-10 minutes from the closest car park. If you want to prepare own meals, you need to bring everything, from salt to kitchen roll. Altogether it was a lovely stay at Cragg Cottage, and you are right in the middle of the old town.

A fabulous cottage, perfect location with a few minutes walk into the centre of Whitby and all the shops and restaurants. The cottage itself was cosy, warm and had everything we needed and its quirky features made for fun times especially getting up and down the spiral stairs renowned in old cottages. Bedrooms and beds were really comfy and bedding made us feel very relaxed. We didn’t have the weather to sit out in the garden but imagine it would be delightful. Would definitely recommend

GuestAirbnbOct 2026

We loved your cottage and really appreciated the skill and talent that had been put in to create a very attractive home. Only two criticisms we would make were that anyone booking the cottage ought to be made aware of the staircase which if you had impaired mobility would present a challenge and secondly although we used sat navy locate the property it took us to the road near the Magpie and opposite the fish market and there was no indication on the property information that the cottage had to be accessed up a set of steps next to the Delicattesen - not easy to find so a better description as to how exactly the cottage is located and how to access it would be useful. And just a third thing I feel anyone staying should be made aware that parking is some distance from the cottage - and although we found the car parking ticket I do think that in your literature confirming the booking it should be clearer as to the existence of the ticket and how it should be used.

We had a wonderfully week in Whitby. The property is in an excellent location. Right in the center of the town, but at the same time secluded and private. The garden was the highlight and a little oasis for us. We were able to enjoy private evening meals out on the patio.

Lovely cottage - very centrally located in a lively part of Whitby but not that easy to find at first. Great garden that was larger than expected and a pleasant surprise.

Brilliant would definitely stay again. Positive: Very comfortable and location excellent Negative: fabulous cottage, stairs are a little tricky but just need to be mindful when going up and down there are plenty of handrails .

AdamBooking.comSep 2026

The house was a home for a week, Lovely location and space Positive: The location was perfect as it is situated a street behind a busy street. The house was lovely with a great outdoor space. The property was set across 3 floors and the rooms were a good size. The kitchen had everything you needed and the house felt like a home for the week we stayed. Negative: There was only 1 bathroom, The stairs were steepish and windy but that is to expected for a fisherman's cottage. I would warn tall people that the shower is great but if you are 6ft+ you will not be able to stand up in it. We checked all routes to the property during our stay and were unable to find a step free access to the property. The best we managed was 8 steps which was easy enough with a buggy. Having said that Whitby is famous for its 199 steps to the abbey and steps to the whalebone on west Pier and so accessibility may not be ideal for all.

KatharineBooking.comAug 2026

Positive: Very central to Whitby. Parking was difficult to find a spot but parked on the Pavilion carpark had plenty of spaces there. Negative: The cottage was lovely. Some people might have difficulty with the stairs as steep.

YoungBooking.comAug 2026

awesome Positive: the location was perfect. we were out on the boats so its very close to the endeavour and the car parks. a flat walk no hills. nice to have a garden to sit out in. Negative: the only 2 issue for us. a group of 6. was maybe only 1 bathroom. we managed fine. but after a full day fishing and 6 wanting showers at the end of the day it took some planning. the other issue for us having a couple of larger gents the stairs were a little difficult to negotiate as they were quite narrow and steep. everything else was perfect. for a smaller group this would be perfect.. having said that we all said we would still absolutely stay again.

We had a lovely stay here and would definitely recommend it. The house is in a fantastic location right in the heart of Whitby, with everything within easy walking distance. It was also so nice to have a garden to relax in, which was a real bonus. The rooms were beautifully decorated, and the house was well equipped with everything we needed for cooking during our stay. There were just a couple of small things that could make the experience even better. Only one toilet roll was provided, so it would have been helpful to have a spare as we stayed for 3 nights. It would also be useful if the welcome booklet included some guidance on where to stop briefly to unload luggage. We found it easiest to pull up on Pier Road opposite Harry’s before moving the car.A lovely surprise was discovering the parking permit, which wasn’t mentioned beforehand. It meant we could park for free in Zone W permit holder spaces, which was a great bonus and worth highlighting for future guests.

We had a wonderful time at Cragg Cottage, such a beautiful place to stay. We were so thankful that we could book at the very last minute when we were stuck for a place to stay! It couldn't have worked out more perfectly - fabulous being in the heart of Whitby with lots to explore and a comfortable home to come back to. The kids loved having the garden to play in and some board games to keep us busy! Highly recommended ✨

Positive: Great location yet with privacy, garden, watching the blue tits feeding their young Negative: Nothing

GuestAirbnbMay 2026

We loved our stay! The cottage was super cute just like the description. It was really clean and high-quality. The beds were so comfy, and the rooms were decorated with great taste – modern but still had that old-world charm. The location was perfect, right behind the Magpie cafe and you get there by the stairs next to Harry's bar. You seriously can't get more central than that! We used the unloading spots outside Harry's and then parked on the west cliff, so parking wasn't a big deal. We saw some comments about the stairs before booking, but honestly, we didn't find them a problem, even with our 5-month-old. Yeah, they're a bit steep inside, but that's pretty typical for most cottages in Whitby. The handrails were super helpful. We totally took advantage of the fireplace, which was all cleaned up before we used it. The kitchen had everything we needed too. Overall, it was a fantastic place, and we'll definitely be back! Oh, and the hosts are really friendly and quick to respond.

CarlBooking.comApr 2026

Positive: Location, quiet, cosy, garden. Negative: Some pans not working on induction hob, lethal headbanger of a lintel outside bathroom landing, no cafetiere or machine, super mean on pan scrubber, tea towels, no oven gloves, bin bags.

JoBooking.comApr 2026

The property is lovely but not for elderly people Positive: Nice and well equipped. Beds were excellent Negative: Unfortunately the property has a lot of steps which were difficult to navigate for my elderly parents.

Cragg Cottage Positive: The location was perfect for popping out around Whitby. The house is lovely. Negative: Stairs are very steep so wouldn't suit anyone with less mobility.

GuestAirbnbFeb 2026

The property lacked some basic utensils, toilet rolls and no logs provided in the winter. It was a cold evening when we arrived and the shops were close so unable to purchase. A big sofa in the living room blocked the radiator so extra jumpers were needed. Very small staircase- not suitable for disabled or elderly persons . No coffee pot or even a taken teabag - stayed in may Airbnb properties and can clearly say that whilst it was in a good location and fairly clean I wouldn’t stay again due to the lack of effort provided for guests on arrival, sometimes a sweetener for the guests bring them back.

Lovely Hidden Cottage Positive: Lovely cottage in the heart of Whitby with all the bits and pieces you can ask for, lovely garden area and plenty of bedrooms. Negative: Tricky to find and no parking close by, there was a bit of mess on the garden and beware of the Yale lock.. we left our key inside by mistake and got charged £75.

Basic but great location wise. Generally really good cottage, only improvements could be somewhere to hang clothes & a couple more mirrors. Location is absolutely amazing & there was some lovely quirks to the property

The late check-in, early check-out and inability to leave bags for a couple of hours cut short our stay. The dog poo over the garden coloured our stay a little too. Lovely place to stay in Yorkshire.

GuestAirbnbSep 2024

Lovely little cottage just set back off the main street behind the famous Magpie Fish and Chip Restaurant. With a spacious garden right in the centre of Whitby it's peaceful yet so close to all the main attractions. The kitchen was well stocked and the bedrooms were really comfortable. The stairs are a little streap and narrow but there is a handrail to support you when using them and adds character to the property. There are also a few low ceilings so mind your head when leaving the bathroom. We parked near the leisure centre and walked down but there is also another car park near the train station which is a flatter route tot he cottage. We loved it and would go back next time we are in Whitby.

JamesBooking.comSep 2024

Positive: Character of cottage was great.location very good for all attractions.Garden was really nice. Negative: The only thing I can critise would be downstairs could have been cleaned more, socks .under chair, bits around floor edges, microwave not cleaned, food crumbs around kitchen tops, large cobwebs above single bed,, it would have made our stay even more special.

GuestAirbnbJul 2024

The Cragg Cottage is in an excellant location, we messaged ahead to confirm directions as the drop pin wasnt too clear, the directions we got from Host and stay took us to the opposite side of whitby, just as well we didnt listen! The Cragg Cottage is nicely decorated, very clean and well stocked kitchen with utensils etc. All I would have preferred is that the clean spare lining wasnt dumped on the floor in the understair cupboard beside a dirty mop and hover, there was an iron and black out curtains... other than that fabulous stay, confortable cottage, beds, great location and a great holiday

GuestAirbnbJun 2024

It was a bad deal because: No hot water No heating Stairway and hallways and kitchen too narrow for more than one person to get by. Convection hob not working. Supply of one roll of loo roll only (for a party of 5 staying for 5 nights). When someone came to ‘fix’ the boiler, it was not fixed (the plumbing makes a VERY loud banging before if all shuts down again from use).

GuestAirbnbApr 2024

An excellent property, right in the centre of Whitby yet very quiet. There is no parking, but the Endeavour car park is a 5 minute walk away, large with plenty of parking and no need to navigate the smaller side streets and tighter car parks! Access is via a ginnel off the main road , and this could be added to the notes to make it easier for people who aren’t familiar with the quirks of Whitby to find. The cottage is beautiful, has a large garden and my only complaint is that it was too hot - even after having reduced the main thermostat and turned the individual radiators off!

GuestAirbnbOct 2023

The location of the property is good as everything is in walking distance. The beds were comfy and the property was nice and warm. There is a nice garden to the side which offers seating. It is only accessible up several steps and as it’s behind the magpie cafe there is a strong smell of fish and chips/vinegar. The property has very steep spiral staircases and low door frames. The shower was very low and anyone above 5ft 5 would struggle to shower comfortably. There is a very large cleaning fee which was not worth it as there was dirt on all of the window ledges, the shower was dirty and there were hairs in the bath and sink. We pulled out a chopping board to use which still had dried on meat on it.

GuestAirbnbSep 2023

Good character cottage near the pier. Tucked in beside the cliff, not a history here. Obviously you’ll smell the chip fat from nearby restaurants . It’s so close to everything, house itself was nice, cosy and clean, with great amenities. Could improve it by having a bin storage a second loo and cleaning the garden table. Parking was even provided with tickets, but you can walk everywhere.
