About this property

With a free EV charger located in the property’s private parking space, this is the perfect base to explore everything this amazing part of the UK has to offer.

Opened in July 2021, Captain’s Retreat offers a flexible living space and has been expertly designed to provide the perfect luxury holiday home in Whitby.

The heart of Captain’s Retreat is the open-plan living and kitchen area on the top floor. A wonderfully bright and spacious area to enjoy special moments with your family and friends, you’ll find French doors that open out onto a juliet balcony which enjoys the sun for much of the day, allowing the outside to come inside. Whether you are sitting back in front of the top of the range Samsung TV or challenging your family to a game of backgammon, you will enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Spa Well Court.

The kitchen is fully equipped to make the most of your self-catering stay, including the added bonus of a Nespresso machine for that much-needed coffee in the morning before starting your day!

There is also a cosy dining area where you can enjoy meals with your loved ones in comfort.

There are three bedrooms in Captain’s Retreat, all featuring high-end beds and plush bedding for a first-class sleep.

The main king size bedroom is on the ground floor and is a lovely haven for relaxing.

Head to the first floor and you’ll find the second king size bedroom. Offering a little piece of luxury, the room can also be made up as a twin if requested upon booking.

The third bedroom is home to twin bunk beds, making this room particularly suitable for children and teenagers.

There is both a bathroom and a separate shower room at Captain’s Retreat. With this in mind, there is no need for arguments over who is getting ready first during your seaside getaway.

Outside, the landscaped garden wraps around the house and catches much of the sun throughout the day.

The area

Should you manage to tear yourself away from your luxury accommodation, you will enjoy the fabulous location of Captain’s Retreat. You are moments from Captain Cook’s Endeavour and the hustle and bustle of Whitby Harbour. The area is famous for the quality of its fish and chip restaurants, where you can sample the local catch of the day.

Continue to explore by crossing the swing bridge, built-in 1908 to connect the East and West sides of the town, passing by enticing Whitby Jet jewellery shops, and you will soon start your ascent towards the Abbey.

Step outside of Whitby, and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park, so it’s the perfect place for long walks and discovering new pastures.

Captain’s Retreat is located in the centre of Whitby, so the town can easily be explored on foot.

Whitby train station is just a short walk away, so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4, and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. Finally, the 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.

“Lovely house, exactly as the photos, staining on bathroom floor (upstairs) not sure if from a previous leak. Seal could do with being replaced on shower screen as water is getting through. Slight problem with the shower hose not fitting properly in the holder in upstairs bathroom. Everything else is perfect. As mentioned in other reviews there are a lot of steps up to the property, we managed even with slight mobility issues but can be difficult with heavy luggage. Great location, just up from Bagdale Hall. Lovely quiet area, co-op just down the road, close to train station, parking space is decent size but parking area would be quite tight for a larger car. Lovely stay and would consider booking again.”

“Very nice town house. Went with another couple so there were two floors each with its own bedroom and bathroom was nice and still private. The top floor was the common space that had a nice and well equipped kitchen with a good amount of seating. The location was also great where you could walk to the main area of Whitby. Overall we had a great stay, but oddly the place didn’t have any toilet paper (which was discovered at an inconvenient time). The host was very nice and responsive but ultimately we had to buy our own which was unexpected and somewhat annoying. No one wants to be caught out!”

“Captains Retreat is in a great location, just a few minutes walk down to the harbour. There are steps up to the house as described, self check in easy enough and parking space was a bonus..it is tight but I managed with a Sportage fine! When entering the house it does smell of drains/sewer from the ground floor bathroom, toilet isn’t secure to the wall so not sure if that is the cause. Bedrooms have roller blinds and with street lights outside it lets a bit of light in, beds were comfy. We had some noisy neighbours, being a new house you do hear everything :-) Kitchen well equipped if you wanted it. Lovely view of the abbey from stairwell windows. A bit of the handrail on stairs at the top isn’t secure, house is looking a little tired on paintwork, black marks on laminate and some carpet stains. This was a base for us, 3 adults and 1 small dog, we didn’t cook/staying in so was fine for what we needed and brilliant location.”
