Beautifully decorated, conveniently located (within short walking distance) to the nearby le petit chaetau wedding venue, and within peaceful surroundings. As the pictures show there is only a bath (no shower). We only stayed for 2 nights so didn't get the chance to explore very far but there is a handy village shop for basics. Would definitely book again if we were to return to the area.

A very comfortable two days. Ideal location for the wedding we attended
Positive: Very clean and well equipped.
Negative: No shower but it did have a lovely bath

Great location to Le Petit Chateaux, comfortable and great value
Positive: The location to the wedding venue we were going to was brilliant. It was a five minute walk from le Petit Chateaux wedding. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed
Negative: It was a shame there was no shower. The main thing we did not like was no garden furniture in the garden. It was just a fenced grassed area so we could not sit outside in the lovely weather

The cottage was lovely, very convenient for the wedding we attended at the chateux.
The guide was really handy for the little questions.
The children really enjoyed the retro look of the cottage and the bedroom and bathroom with stairs down to it were a hit!
It is kitted out with all the little accessories you might need ie iron etc.
small coffees and milks are provided until you can get to the shop which is less than 5 minutes walk.
The only thing that we felt it was missing was a tv upstairs in the bedroom and an air fryer would have been handy.
But it was an absolutely lovely cottage, real fire, cosy and well looked after.

A really lovely house that was surprisingly spacious. Clean and comfortable with nice surroundings and an easy walk to the local shop. Would recommend as overall a lovely stay in a lovely property and perfect for guests at the nearby wedding venues.

Lovely house, made us feel right at home. Excellent facilities and incredibly clean and tidy
Positive: Ideal location for us attending a nearby wedding. Very clean and had all the facilities we required.

We booked this place as we were guests to a wedding at the nearby Petit Chateau. It’s location was great - 5 minute walk.
The place itself was quant and clean, however a little tired and needed a little maintenance inside. The door lock was quite stiff from the inside and the decor chipped in a few places.
The roll top bath was nice, but a shower would have been better, although not sure where it would go, so that’s probably why there wasn’t one.
The two main disappointments were:
1. The inflexibility of booking in-time, we traveled up from Devon for 9 hours and weren’t allowed in earlier than 4.
2. The fee for breakages - we had to pay either £25 non refundable fee against possible breakages, or a £450 deposit that would have £10 non refundable for admin. Never had this before with air bnb so that essentially added £25 to the stay.
Other than that, it was comfortable and perfect for its location to the wedding view.

Highly recommend Canny Cottage! We stayed for a long weekend while attending a wedding at Petit Chateau. Just a few minutes walk from the venue and lots of nice walks on the doorstep of the cottage. The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed for a few nights stay. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and hopefully we’ll be back one day.

Nice cottage thank you.
Quite a busy main road and I hadn’t realised that the back garden wasn’t directly out of the back door which was a little inconvenient with the dog.
Also, there was no storage for food that we brought so had to keep it in bags on the kitchen floor.
However, the cottage was nicely furnished and clean.

Lovely little place to stay in, very well decorated felt very warm and homely. Nice and clean, loved the style of the house. Log burner is a lovely touch to have, very useful in winter! Dale was great at messaging beforehand to make sure we could find the place and manage check in. One thing to note would be that whilst it does have an enclosed garden, it's not directly accessible from the property (not even visible) . Whilst this was fine for us to pop the dog in briefly it may not be suitable for all visitors.

Canny cottage was a lovely place for our 2 night stay, the dogs were happy with the garden area and we thought the house was welcoming and had everything we needed.

Overall it was a lovely stay at Canny Cottage. Stairs a little steep for young kids, and a shower would’ve been good.

Our first experience of Airbnb and won't be our last. Loved our stay. A beautiful home base from which to explore Northumerland National Park, the coast and beyond (we did a day trip to Edinburgh during our stay (about 90mins to the park and ride). Kitchen was well equipped for our needs. Village shop has most essentials. Larger Coop in Rothwell, big supermarkets at Hexham (40mins). Host & Stay coms were great. Many thanks.

Lovely home from home for our little family, we chose this home to stay in to attend a wedding only 2 minutes walk away so this was an ideal location and lovely accommodation. My only downside was there was no flexibility for a late check out which was disappointing but we did opt to stay another evening which was luckily available at last minute and the response to this request was immediate. Excellent communication with the host and overall 10/10! We would definitely return and recommend xx

Otterburn is a lovely little village. We were wedding guests at Le Petite Chateau which was about 10 min walk. Nice breakfast at The Old Post Office cafe. Canny Cottage was clean, tidy and fit our needs for a two day stay. The only downside was there was only a bath with hand held shower, no over bath shower or sep shower room so for 6 of us getting ready was quite difficult. The stairs are quite steep as well so if there was anyone with limited walking it’s not for you. However lovely area, lovely cottage.

I wouldn’t book again.
Positive: It was in a nice location and nicely decorated
Negative: It wasn’t very clean. There was a plate of mouldy food in the fridge and cobwebs everywhere. Basic things like hand soap was not provided. The WiFi didn’t work at all
GuestAirbnbSep 2026
Be nice to have a welcome pack. Bare minimum there. No frying pan. Weeds outside by back door. Paintwork needs attention. Nice bath room and beds very comfy. Bit dark tho. Be nice to have some books or games to make more welcoming

Great location, highly recommend village life with everything you need within a light stroll. Very nice house, we'll decorated.

Comfortable stay for a family event
Positive: Very spacious
Negative: Lacking kitchen cupboard space for food storage, bathroom bath plug was not attached to the chain which made it difficult to pull the plug.

Lovely cottage which worked well for our 2 night stay. Will recommend.
Positive: Well equipped and lots of space for 4 adults to move about freely. Very conveniently situated for attending a wedding at Le Petit Chateau in Otterburn.
Negative: Steep stairs and steps down into bathroom.

Decent stay, had everything we needed for a short weekend away with family. Rooms were actually a bit bigger than we’d expected based off photos which is always good! Well equipped kitchen and a nice big booth.
Enjoyed staying in Otterburn - good location for exploring Northumberland and had a great dinner at the local pub. Handy to have a village shop too.
As mentioned in the other recent reviews, be aware that the garden is just down the lane behind the house, rather than attached - plain and simple but big enough for our dog to have zoomies!
Also there is no shower but it’s quite obvious in the pictures so we knew what we’d signed up for!
House is generally just a bit tired with some paint peeling and a furry rug that needs a big vacuum/updating. However that’s all just cosmetic; functionally it had everything we needed and was comfy.

Perfect location and size for our needs
GuestAirbnbJul 2026
The property was okay value for money and close to a venue for a wedding we were attending so that was convenient for us, otherwise we probably wouldn't stay again or recommend it unfortunately. WiFi didn't work so couldn't use the TV, we were a bit confused by the parking at the back as there was no number for 7. Quite a lot of flaking paint in kitchen on walls and finishing just isn't great, scrapes and marks on walls throught the house, just felt really tired. It's also located right on a main road and very noisy with traffic as it was hot we had the windows open so this was a bit of catch 22. There is also no shower, just a bath with a hose attachment, which I didn't realise or we probably wouldn't have booked. Overall it was fine, quite basic and okay value for money but just needs some TLC.

Lovely terraced quirky cottage. It was clean and tidy. Easy check in. Responses to messages were all AI so quick but very frustrating as wasn’t always helpful. For example WiFi network that it was supposed to have did not exist and we never got onto WiFi, annoying as England were playing in the World Cup. Lovely bathroom but hadn’t realised no shower until I’d seen reviews the day before. So if a shower is a must or can’t climb into a roll top bath then this cottage isn’t for you. Nice big area for seating in kitchen and half and half back door so was lovely to have the top portion open when in there. The stairs were steep and one big step onto landing, not so great for people with a mobility issue but, no issue for us. Tea, coffee, milk sachets etc provided and 1 loo roll 🤔 Garden isn’t straight out the back door which if we’d brought our dog would’ve been a pain to access. 10am check out isnt great after a late night at a wedding.
On the whole we enjoyed our stay. Lovely location.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a road trip and found it to be a comfortable base for exploring the area. The cottage was fairly well equipped and in a good location, with easy access to local walks and attractions.
For those travelling with dogs, it’s worth noting that the garden is separate from the cottage rather than directly attached, so dogs can’t simply be let out from the house. This wasn’t a major issue for us but may be useful information for future guests.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and appreciated having a dog-friendly place to stay in a beautiful part of the country.

Perfect location for wedding guests. house was nicely decorated, perfect for a family.
Positive: House was perfect location for attending a wedding at Le Petite Chatteau, only a few minutes walk away. Local shop was 2 minutes from the house. House had all essentials provided, was nicely decorated and gave a very home from home feel. perfect for a family. Lay-by opposit the house was perfect for unloading the car. Sensor night lights were also a great added touch for the children navigating to the bathroom at night.
Negative: For a better night's sleep, black out or thicker curtains would have been ideal as the curtains let in a lot of light early hours. Road was also very loud through the night but we did have the windows open.

Positive: Countryside.
Negative: It started as soon as we arrived, front door didn't open had to use rear door all the time.tv only have bbc1 nothing eles and had to change batteries in the remotes.there is thick dust under the sofas.there was 6 adults staying and 2 had to sleep in bunk bed.my mam and dad aged 80,and 79 both fell on the first night at the top of the stairs and cut them selves and bruised,I fell in the middle of the night going to the toilet also bruised and cut my arm, bathroom floor needed a mop around the toilet.i would recommend you start not good for elderly people.put it this way if we weren't attending a wedding on Monday we would have just turned around and gone home and got my money back plus compensation for what I will call a disaster of a break.now I could have put more in this review that happened while we stayed but just put the main things in as my wife said to be fair.

Stayed here for a wedding with a few friends, cheaper than local hotels at the time. Lovely cottage feel to the place. I would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet getaway.
SusanBooking.comMay 2026
Extremely disappointing
Negative: On arrival, having paid more than £50 extra for an earlier check in (we had a baby with us) we found there was no hot water and no heating.
For more than an hour, with a small baby, we sat phoning people to help. It was freezing cold. Eventually after a lot of stress it was resolved. After our 2night stay and obviously still feeling aggrieved, when trying to contact the host there was zero response from them. Worst experience. Very expensive mistake and we are still extremely disappointed.

Nice house in a good loaction but the lack of proper washing facilities ruined our stay .
Positive: The property was in an ideal location .
Negative: Unfortunately the plug in the bathroom didn’t work and although I contacted the agency nobody came to fix it . This meant that none of us could have a proper wash before our daughter’s wedding . I do not blame the owners for this . The agency let them down .

Positive: Convenient location. Very clean.
Negative: The mattresses weren’t the best. Felt a bit cheap. But otherwise the place was nice.
After booking, I was constantly getting emails from the owners about additional offers for all sorts of things that I had no interest in. It became a bit tedious.

Canny Cottage is indeed canny
Positive: It had a cosy atmosphere. I loved the log burner. The beds were very comfortable. The furnishings were of good quality.
Negative: There wasn’t an empty cupboard in the kitchen to store the food we brought.
It would have been good to have a complimentary starter pack for the log burner. However there is a shop nearby where they can be purchased.
