Lovely property great views. Dog friendly and a good base to explore Whitby and beyond! Bonus of car parking spot so you Positive: The properly has amazing views. There is a patio and large grass area which was perfect for dogs and could just let them out without at night before bed! It’s very spacious. We stayed with family in the two bedrooms and didn’t feel on top of each other both have en suite and there is a separate toilet in the hall. The guide of how to get to the property were perfect with a video of the drive in. Which helped no end Negative: The parking situation due to the property above which host and stay also manage. They didn’t park correctly and was very tight to manoeuvre inexperienced drivers would struggle and also larger cars. There wasn’t any hand wash in the kitchen and only one soap provided in the bathrooms which I think standard hand wash would be better. No kitchen roll or washing up liquid for small pots however they did provide 2 dish washer tablets which we used. The beds are not very comfy and small they aren’t a standard double and didn’t sleep the best in them.
A comfortable and relaxing stay with surrounding views to die for! 😊 Positive: Amazing location, clean and spacious, catered for all our needs. Negative: The only thing would be to make the garden secure - I visited with a dog and was conscious of the gap in the wall at the bottom and to the side, out towards the area for car parking. Maybe a gate so dogs can be let out without worry, however this did not affect our stay as we always prepare for this. We loved the garden and our dog definitely enjoyed the space.
Lovely place to stay. Could have left some logs for the fire and some Christmas decorations but all in all would definitely return.
Will be back if management improves the facilities Positive: The cottage situated in a fabulous location with great views overlooking Whitby. St Marys church and the Abbey is only couple of minutes’ walks from the cottage. Negative: One of the most disappointing holiday cottages I’ve ever stayed! Other family members also visited Whitby at the same time and booked cottages nearby. As it was Christmas week, all their cottages were decorated for Christmas with Christmas tree set dining table, bottle of wine, card and welcome hamper from Bothams. They paid half of what we paid for this cottage (£1,800+) for a week and we had no welcome gesture, not even a card wishing good stay or Merry Christmas. Main entrance path was covered in weeds and dried garden debris. As we walked through the main door, initial impression we had that it was a beautiful apartment but was quickly disappointed as we started to unpack our luggage’s. There was no wardrobe or hanging facility to unpack our clothes into but had couple of chests of drawers set in the bedrooms. We booked for a week but kitchen had an empty bottle of washing up liquid, no kitchen roll, only 2 bin bags, 2 dishwasher tablets and no cleaning products whatsoever at all. The windows were dirty both inside and outside. Particularly, kitchen window had a lovely view but most of the view was absorbed by the seagull poo. The extractor fan and shower panel was dirty in the main bathroom. There was a wonderful fireplace but there was no log in it or pack of logs by the side, no kindling or any set of fireside tools if we wanted to light a fire. There was a lovely patio through the living room with wonderful views of Whitby which was spoilt by an fragile wood table with one chair in one side and another chair was broken and situated on the grass verge. The mattress on both bed felt cheap. Our back was hurting after laying on it overnight. During the night, every time we both tried to move or turn, mattress squeaked and sounded like it was going to break, so we could hardly relax or have a good night sleep. All the cupboards in the cottage were empty, no books to read, no board/card games to play.
Lovely views , great location nice if you like walking x Positive: The location , fantastic views, lovley decor, nice garden Negative: Steps up to kitchen not good for my elderly mum as she couldn’t make a cup of tea . Bit unfinished smashed bin in kitchen , views of cafe when u come outside win morning with dressing gown on .only takeaway available is domino’s it’s ok if u cook all time . The directions to get into property . Weeds all over but scruffy . Tv to hard to use .
We had a great few days as a family. Awesome views over Whitby from the property, great for heading down the 199 steps into Whitby or heading off along the coastal path for a walk to Robin Hoods Bay.
Caedmon's view is in an ideal location by Whitby Abbey, with amazing views over Whitby from the windows. The place is very nice and modern with a large kitchen space. My partner and I stayed here just the two of us, but there is more than enough space for 4 people to stay comfortably. The only issue we had was finding the place, as it wasn't very clear where to park, although we did arrive in the dark so that didn't help. Overall we had a nice stay.
Take my advice and DO NOT book a holiday with Host & Stay. These people are serial offenders when it comes to poor levels of cleanliness, maintenance and complaint resolution. You only have to read some of the poor reviews on their own website (e.g. Raven House, Robin Hood’s Bay) to see how bad they are. I took my disabled friend to Whitby for what may well be her final holiday. Caedmon’s View seemed ideally situated within the grounds of the Abbey but our stay was badly let down by Host & Stay who obviously didn’t care about customer satisfaction. We reported numerous issues to them and nothing was done: windows filthy, window sills covered with dust & dead flies, outside light not working, incorrect address, only one usable patio chair for a flat that sleeps 4. The list goes on. I filled out their complaints form and they said they would get back to me within 7-10 working days. 11 working days later and they had done nothing. Finally I involved Airbnb who processed a refund.
Beautiful place to stay that is convenient to access all along the Cleveland Way. Bonus is the on-site parking and the Whitby Brewery literally 2 minutes away.
Positive: This is a beautiful property, stunning inside and stunning views outside. Would definitely stay again. Negative: The directions to get to the property we're not helpful at all and the pictures need to show the front of property so you know what it looks like properly and also could do with being signposted better as I found it very difficult and stressful to find.
Perfect for what we wanted a base to go walking from. Positive: Views not everyone would appreciate the walk done the steps into Whitby Negative: Television has no terrestrial channels. No hanging space in bedroom not an issue for me but other visitors may not agree
Location is excellent. Apartment needs TLC. Beds are the worst!!!! Positive: Potential to be wonderful. Needs TLC Negative: The beds were terrible to the point that they spoilt our stay! Reading other reviews it appears to be a regular complaint.
Amazing views over Whitby Positive: The views are outstanding, could not fault them. The property is well laid out and feels like a home from home. Has everything you need - although do take things like hand wash and washing up liquid with you. We had a problem with the boiler but that sorted the same day. Negative: Only criticism is the mattresses were very uncomfortable and could do with upgrading. Parking could be signposted better for each property, we got blocked in on leaving day and had to knock neighbours up to move.
EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING!!! Positive: The location, the house itself and the decor Negative: It was absolutely filthy!!! I was told an earlier check in wasn't allowed due to it being cleaned. That is an absolute joke as it would've taken half an hour max to do the 'cleaning' which was done! I wrote in the dust on furniture, there was food splattered up the walls in the kitchen, the glasses in the kitchen cupboards needed cleaning before being used as they were greasy and the cupboards were extremely dirty, the filth on the windowsills was disgusting!!!! Flies, dirt etc ..... It took me an hour to find when I arrived up there as no one had heard of 'Caedmons View at Whitby Abbey'. It wasn't called this!!!! It is called Caedmons House!!!!! Only 1 flimsy dish cloth was left, along with 1 bin bag, 1 tea towel and 1 toilet roll.........for 4 people for a 3 night stay!! Extra insulation is needed for the ceiling as the noise from above was unbearable! Throughout our stay we were woken up at 5 - 6am daily, with the noise! The carbon monoxide alarm didn't work!!!!! I tested it but it was either broken or the batteries had run out!!! The towels smelt fusty and had knots of human hair and fluff on them!! I stay in hosted properties at least 4 times per year and there has never been a property which hasn't supplied basic bathroom toiletries or very basic kitchen cleaners I.e washing up liquid. We had to go shopping as soon as we arrived! Finally......there isn't any recycling facilities!!!
Excellent apartment in beautiful surroundings. Negative: The property was cleaned between bookings but a deep spring clean is required.
Nice place in a great location overlooking the town but follow the directions for access to the letter!
Positive: I liked some of the decor. The apartment was well laid out. The things I needed were there. Negative: The apartment looked tired in places. The mattresses were very uncomfortable, the springs were sticking through a bit. There were 2 dirty tea spoons in the cutlery draw. I remade my bed as the bottom sheet was on sideways. I then found that the mattress protector was quite dirty! The carpets in the bedrooms were quite dirty. I presume from the berries outside the front door being walked through on shoes. The apartment could be better sign posted. The name says Caedmons House. Not view! Didn't know which door i was meant to go through! Took me ages to get the key safe open as the lock hadn't been cancelled! Very frustrating. It just didn't feel clean. It was cleaner in the kitchen especially, after we left!
A great weekend stay at a fantastic location Positive: The location was excellent. Room sizes were good. Negative: The outside could do with a tidy up with better outdoor seating facilities. Hand soap should be provided at the sinks. A lot of cobwebs in bathrooms and jelly baby found under a bed.
brilliant location
Excellent location and super clear instructions. Make sure you watch the video of how to get there
Beautiful location right by the Abbey, lovely views over Whitby, easy access the town. We had a lovely stay and wished it was longer.
Stayed over one night, great communication, lovely clean place, would highly recommend.
Outstanding location overlooking the Whitby Harbour and in the shadow of the Abbey ruins. A beautiful, well appointed flat which was perfect for us and our dogs. Great communication from Charlie at Host & Stay just added to the experience.
Beautiful location and views. The cottage was cosy and comfortable with everything we needed. Parking was an added bonus. It would be a great spot in the summer. Pity Storm Chandra dropped by whilst we were there but didn't stop us getting out and about around Whitby. Love Whitby !

Fabulous place to stay but not recommended in bad weather due to the location. The views over Whitby are brilliant. Very private and would be excellent in summer sat out in the garden.
Excellent location and amenities. Good hosting and communication. Loved every minute.
Excellent clear communication from host from outset. Walking into the property for first time - WOW! What a stunning place. Just like the photos inside. What the listing doesn’t convey is the excellent location with views over the harbour & sea and just a stones throw from the Abbey. The property has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It was clean and obviously well maintained. The instructions to locate the property were clear (though we couldn’t believe we were going through a little historic arch to what seemed like a pedestrian area & for this reason I’d recommend arriving in daylight just so you can see where you are going) & parking is right by the property. A photo of the front door on the listing would be a helpful. Very close to the famous 199 steps to walk into town - taxis easy to get so no need to climb up them to get back! Plenty to do in Whitby even out of season & some great restaurants. Once you have stayed here you won’t want to stay anywhere else in Whitby.
Positive: Perfect location Negative: Nothing
A good base to explore Whitby, with beautiful views and good value for money. Positive: Spacious. Excellent location with great views of Whitby. Had all mod-cons. Both bedrooms had en-suites. Free parking. Negative: There wasn’t anywhere to hang our clothes although there were plenty of drawers. It was very noisy from the guests staying above which meant us being woken between 6am and 7.15am each morning, with guests stomping about above and furniture being moved about constantly. It would helpful if the property signage could state ‘Caedmons View’ rather than ‘Caedmons House’. It would also be helpful if an early check-in was available.
great stay in a perfect private apartment right on the Abbey grounds. easy to find and get to all whitbys attractions
Negative: No wardrobe or hanging space for clothes
What a lovely apartment, beautiful views over the river and town, the brewery next door with lovely pizzas!! Ample parking, although the arch and turns are a bit tight for a large car, the lounge/dining area was lovely with a log burner.
Excellent location, beautiful interior and value for money. Positive: The property was located within the Abbey grounds at Whitby with sea views from the kitchen. The interior was very well maintained with plenty of lounge space, dining area and kitchen facilities. Negative: The property name on Booking.com was advertised as Caedmons View but the property name is actually Caedmons House. This discrepancy caused some misunderstanding whilst trying to locate the property. This was clarified to us by a very helpful lady working on behalf of the owners.
Positive: The location is perfect, the views are amazing, very special. The apartment is beautifully decorated and spacious. Settee is very comfortable. The access to the apartment is unique. Having private parking is also a real bonus. Negative: A couple of minor issues, there was only 1 glass tumbler and there was no hand-wash in the toilet & bathrooms. The main issue was the mattress in the bedroom at the back (overlooking the driveway) it was very uncomfortable and needs replacing.
Would recommend this property as a great view of Whitby. Lots of great space and comfortable areas. Positive: Great location, spacious property with comfortable living space and large kitchen. Fabulous views and great access to Whitby. Negative: One of the beds was uncomfortable, springs were felt. No hanging space for clothes in either bedroom. Outdoor lights and one wall light not working, we did report this on first day.
Fabulous in many respects, but perhaps avoid if you want to self-cater. Positive: The property is in a stunning location right next to Whitby Abbey, with breathtaking views over the town and out to sea. Large grass garden, suntrap patio with comfy garden furniture. The kitchen and dining/sitting room are large and beautifully decorated. Both double bedrooms have nice en-suite bathrooms. Negative: Unfortunately the lovely kitchen was not well equipped. Cooking a meal for 4 would’ve been a real challenge with the 2 small saucepans and small frying pan available. There were a few tins and a couple of roasting dishes, but not enough. There were only 4 dinner plates and side plates, and only 5 mugs. There was a dishwasher, but we had to wash up as we went along, ready for the next hot drink! This concern is not difficult or expensive to put right, and would make the stay so much nicer. We ate out the 3 nights we stayed, but would definitely have wanted to cook if we’d been there longer. Our bed was also rather lumpy - mattress needs replacing.
A Lovely, Lovely Place - with a few Small Improvements Needed. Positive: The owner took a great deal of time and energy decorating the house. It was very peaceful and had great views. I loved that each bedroom had it's own bathroom and should you have additional company over, there was an additional toilet for them to use. Negative: Upon arrival I was a bit shocked by all the weeds outside the house - It's a 15 minute job - and would make the house look so much nicer. There wasn't a single hanger in the entire house - a small awkward rack could be found as you entered the house to hang your coats but this wasn't idea. The view would have been better had the windows been cleaned. The beds had terrible bedding - I would have expected a real duvet and better pillows. The kitchen also need more glasses - there were only two tall tumblers and no small tumblers - but 6 wine glasses and 5 process flutes =-). Lastly, as we did plan to eat in the house - it would have been nice to have a few serving dishes. Wait - one more - in the write up it said to expect toiletries - but none were left for us - hand soap would have been nice.
Lovely stay in a unique setting. Positive: Very nice spacious apartment. 2 patio doors out to private patio/grass area. Great view of Whitby. YHA cafe very handy after long travel day. Located inside Abbey area and access to 199 steps. Parking next to door. Apartment was very clean. Just a very unique area to stay in. Negative: Beds were very uncomfortable. You can feel the springs through the mattress. Steps up into kitchen need a hand rail for safety. Master bedroom only has ceiling lights, no lamp next to bed.
Once we located the property had a lovely time Positive: Beautiful views Negative: Very difficult to find, this needs to be explained when booking
Amazing location and view, lovely property. Positive: We (grandparents and grandson) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the accommodation. The location and view were amazing. The directions to find the property were very good, but the confusion started upon arrival as there wasn’t a property called Caedmons View. Only Caedmons House and Caedmons House 1. We tried Caedmons House, because upon arrival a lady entered the next door property Caedmons House 1, with a sign Private, so we thought it was occupied. The code didn’t work and when we called your office we were reminded that we could get in at 4pm earliest. When we returned from Whitby the code still didn’t work, so we tried next door Caedmons House 1 Private and of course that worked! Please update the name of the property to help future visitors. It’s called Caedmons House 1, not Caedmons View. Apart from that we had a fabulous time! Thank you for the 10% discount offer for a possible future booking. With kind regards John and Geja Holmes Hadderingh and Henry Negative: The property could do with some more cleaning/drying cloths, kitchen roll and it would be an improvement if it had a wardrobe or hanging rack somewhere in one of the bedrooms. The directions to find the property were very good, but the confusion started upon arrival as there wasn’t a property called Caedmon View. Only Caedmon House and Caedmon House 1. Positive: Fantastic location with amazing views and a beautifully appointed apartment. Negative: The name of the apartment was not Caedmons View so we were not too sure which was our key box.
Caedmon House 1 Positive: The spectacular views over Whitby, The comfy sofa and lovely beds, very clean linen Negative: A few issues in kitchen, cutlery not dried properly so lots of watermarks, and a few bits of crockery also the same, having said that the kitchen equipment is first class, and there was everything you needed
Truly amazing place to stay. Positive: The accommodation was excellent and in a brilliant location at the top of the 199 steps. Some people may be put off by this, but the views across Whitby Bay are amazing, and with the clear weather we had, we observed a pretty special sunset and moonrise on both nights of our stay. Loved it.
Comfortable stay in a beautiful and unique location. Positive: Amazing location. Great parking. All facilities included to make a comfortable stay. Negative: Nothing worth noting.
Stunning View Positive: The apartment is beautiful with stunning views and having access to the garden is bliss. What a sight to wake up too in the morning. The beds and sofa were very comfortable and being right next to the Abbey was amazing. Negative: The toaster needs replacing, half the toaster isnt working. The property was clean but there were marks on the back door in the bedroom and the blinds were rather dusty (the one with the bath). The window ledges in the living room needed a good wipe down as there were dead midges and dust. The shower in the other bedroom was tempremental.
Positive: Absolutely stunning place to stay, would definitely book again Negative: Small issue was no bedside lamp in the main bedroom but we just took one from the other room and a gap in the fence where the dog could have got out but we was with him anyway
Positive: Fab location opposite the Abbey and a stones throw from the Whitby Brewery. A short walk into the town. Property was lovely. Very clean with everything provided for our stay. Negative: The gap at the top of the garden was not dog friendly. The beds are small doubles-not very comfortable and not much room for two people.
This house should have been a 9 or 10 rating, had it had a more welcoming atmosphere Negative: The host company was very politely entirely unhelpful with any queries/ problems. The house looked great and was tastefully decorated but was rather style over substance, being meanly provisioned. We had a dribble of watered down washing up liquid, one dishwasher tablet and two half rolls of toilet paper. My friend’s shower was dirty, I had no bedside lights. I loved the location but this is not a place to stay if you’re unfit ! 199 steps to town. Great views and terrace
For personal reasons I had to cut short my stay, but I would have happily extended.
Great location and lovely accommodation. It was perfectly clean. It would have been nicer to have more than 2 dishwasher tablets as we ran out of clean cups etc and there wasn’t any washing up liquid, so 2 tablets is not enough. Small note for others is that although called Caedmons view, the actual house sign states 1 Caedmon cottage. Saw no reference at all to Caedmons view. Ref parking you have to drive into the Abbey grounds and turn right, which feels odd, but the host sends out a location and helpful video. Overall a lovely find. Fully recommend
Spacious 2 bed close to abbey and brewery Positive: The location for us was Good - a little strange as the entrance feels like you are going under an arch into the abbey a little bit. But really good, the garden was a decent size. Living room very spacious and kitchen, both bed rooms with en-suite was fab. Close to Whitby Brewery which was great. Negative: Lack of soap in the bathrooms. We didn't mind the stairs, but if not fit the stairs down to Whitby (or back up) would be an issue, so people should think about that. Totally fine for us. Closest beaches are not dog friendly.
Thoroughly enjoyable though we feel that a 4pm check in is a bit late especially when compared with our other Airbnb stays. A minor point with the property wa# that there was no hanging space for clothes.
Positive: Great location. Beautiful, accommodation with amazing views over whitby. Negative: Initially found it difficult to locate the enterence to the property.
Amazing location! Incredible views. I was in two minds whether to book this due to some negative feedback, but I was glad that we went ahead. Its a lovely apartment, very spacious and clean. Lovely big garden, oh, and those views! It's located within the grounds of the Abbey, which was fab. Clear instructions were sent on how to locate the property; you can't just rely on the postcode. 199 steps down to the town of Whitby. Whitby Brewery is only around the corner, where they serve fab beer and oven-fired pizza's. Overall, it was a great stay, and I would recommend.
Enjoyed our stay very much Positive: Spacious -lovely decor-amazing location Negative: No hanging storage -house sign is 1 Caedmons house- was advertised as Caedmons view so weren’t sure we were at the right location
Stunning location & views, beautiful property, would definitely stay again Positive: Beautiful decor & layout in an amazing location. The views of the Abbey & also Whitby were stunning. A literal stones-throw from the Abbey Negative: Parking instructions were very clear for us but a nearby property parked in our allocated location & parking was then tight.
Great view of Whitby. Positive: Modern facilities & great coffee Negative: For us, it was perfect.
We did not make it to the property due to booking error
The location of the apartment is wonderful, the view spectacular and the apartment itself impressive but there are some failings: More specific directions required Security light not working, dangerous as there is a step which hasn't been clearly marked - the light was pointed out by a previous guest, why hasn't this been repaired? No heating on arrival - took until Saturday evening to warm up. Why wasn't this on? No firewood or fire irons No additional blankets There are few lights in the area so a torch for guests would be useful We received a welcome message and when we responded with our concerns received a message back which didn’t address the issues raised. We certainly would wish to return but only if all the above issues have been attended to..
Beautiful apartment with amazing views of Whitby. Positive: The amazing views The decor Spacious rooms Facilities Negative: Hard to find in the dark Noise from guests upstairs - they probably didn’t realise but it could do with sound proofing as every move they made started the dogs barking. Couldn’t open the kitchen window when cooking for ventilation Took a day to warm up the apartment so quite cold
Excellent stay, would definitely return! Positive: The property is so spacious, modern & clean and is situated in the perfect location, a stone throw away from Whitby Abbey with an excellent view of the town. Negative: The TV is a little slow & tricky to get your head around the live tv channels. It would have also been good to have space to hang up clothing in the bedrooms.
