Beautiful house and great location. Perfect for a family.
Stayed here with family over Christmas and it was absolutely perfect (we were even able to cook a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings). The location is utterly amazing - you’re right at the top of the Abbey steps with breathtaking views from every window. The host even put up a Christmas tree for us so 5* service there (thank you!). Comfy beds, freshly clean linen/towels, extremely spacious, beautiful decor and the home was spotless bar a few marks on the kitchen counter/sofa etc from general wear & tear but it is to be expected. The only suggestion the family had was that an oven glove and more than one kitchen towel would have been helpful but we managed to get around this easily enough and I imagine most guests would bring their own if planning on making use of the kitchen (otherwise the town’s shops are only a short walk away if caught short). We will be recommending this delightful staycation to family & friends. Thank you to the hosts for making our stay so special.
We had a great family holiday. With the cottage in the grounds of the Abbey, the views where amazing. Evening walks to the Brewery. A lovely way to spend restful few days.
Very disappointed with host & stay Positive: The position was fantastic. Superb views. Negative: Arrived to not having the house cleaned. All beds slept in, dirty towels on the bathroom floors, kitchen dirty & smelly from previous people. I've waited a while to do this review as I'm waiting to get my money back for 1 night but I'm still waiting!! No-one responds until you chase. Very disappointed. Our family were coming the following night and did not have our experience as the house was cleaned the morning after we got there. No oven glove Not enough chairs to sit around the table. Booking for 6 only had chairs for 4 people??
The pictures really don’t do Caedmon House justice, we were all blown away by the amazing location! This home is literally nextdoor to Whitby Abbey and has the most beautiful views. We had such a lovely family get together and we will hopefully be returning very soon. Thank you so much for such a lovely weekend xx
Brilliant weekend away for the family. Plenty of space and beautiful views off Whitby.
A stunning cottage in stunning location Positive: Location was perfect to visit all the amenities that Whitby had to offer. Views were amazing, house was well appointed and very comfortable for our family. An added bonus was closeness of Whitby Brewery and YHA cafe and bar. Will definitely stay again. Negative: Hallway would benefit from coat and boot rack. We had expected salt and pepper, pint glasses and cleaning fluid but didn’t affect our wonderful stay
A lovely property with great views, think they need to talk to other neighbours to ensure they park in right places, for pet friendly it’s a lovely property. Tea/coffee/dishwasher tablet starters appreciated. Beautiful location
Check in details and exact location are with-held until you complete a form entering your personal data on a third party website accessed via a URL sent by SMS. This is not made clear until the non-refundable payment has been made. Why can’t everything be handled through the Airbnb app? As a result we arrived in the evening with no word from the host and no idea how to access the house. Google maps location was inaccurate at the time of writing, which did not help The house itself is comfortable and the location is fantastic. Cleanliness was fine considering it is a dog-friendly accommodation. Great house, awkward check in process.
Lovely house in a perfect location. Great that it allows dogs too. Modern, tasteful decor. Would book again and recommend to family and friends.
Lovely place, great views and very clear instructions on how to find it. Unfortunately the hoover in the property is rubbish and there was pet hair all over the carpets that had not been cleaned up properly because of this.
Fantastic location, lovely interior, great living space for the family, bedrooms all of a good size and great to be able to bring the doggos!!!
Had a lovely stay at Caedmon House. The location was perfect, in close proximity to the town centre & the Cleveland way national trail for coastal walks. Electrics tripped twice during our stay which wasn’t ideal when making meals. However, the host was responsive & communicated well to get this resolved. Teas/coffees/sugars were provided which was a lovely touch. Overall, the accommodation was as photographed, nicely decorated & the check-in process smooth. Would recommend😊
Great little cottage and it was absolutely spotless, with easy access to Whitby. Loved the walks, will definitely be back…
A great place to stay to explore Whitby and walk some of the coast pathways Positive: Fabulous location with amazing views over Whitby and the coast. It was spacious and well equipped. Ideal for three adult couples Negative: The most direct walking route into Whitby is via many steep steps or a cobbled slope so anyone with mobility issues might find this challenging
Positive: The location was amazing, although it might be difficult for people with mobility issues. Entrance was up a flight of stairs & parking was a bit of a nightmare, mainly due to other people who were staying at different properties. There seemed to be a lot of confusion about this, despite a parking map being provided. There was an issue with privacy in the bathroom upstairs on an evening - no window coverings & you can see straight through from the car park. The property was ideal for our needs. We went as a group of couples & it was comfortable & well equipped. It was cold when we arrived as heating hadn't been on, but was fine once we got it to the desired temperature.. Everything looked clean, but there was grime behind the taps in the upstairs bathroom, on both sink & bath.
I stayed from Wednesday to Friday to assist my son who has mobility issues on a residential trip. The accommodation itself was very good and very spacious and clean. However we did experience some issues. On arrival I was contacted and informed that a heating engineer would be visiting shortly, but they did not arrive, I chased this up and was told I would receive a reply which did not happen. From Thursday evening we had no hot water or heating which is frankly unacceptable given the price we paid. The heating controls were unfathomable. I would have reported this, however my son was unexpectedly taken ill. Therefore my priority was to get him home, rather than to lodge a complaint. I can see from other reviews that this is a recurrent issue and needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. Also I felt the kitchen was lacking some useful items such as sharp knives, foil and kitchen roll which we had to go and buy. I would expect these sort of things to be provided.
Caedmon House was beautifully presented for such an old building. The decor was fabulous, the kitchen had everything one would need and the bedrooms were large. An open living room had seating for at least six. What can I say about the location? Well, if I could give it more than a 5 rating I would. It was one of a row of former alms houses alongside Whitby Abbey and is accessed through the Abbey grounds. The views over Whitby and the sea were stunning with both sunrise and sunsets. It is not brilliant for accessibility. The entrance is on the ground floor but all the accomodation is up a flight of stairs with one en suite room on the first floor with the living room and the kitchen diner was up three further steps. Two more bedrooms on the second floor. My elderly parents coped but anyone for severe mobility issues could struggle. The same applies to the front garden/drive which is uneven with a few steps and was a bit overgrown in places. The outside security light did help
Caedmon House was a truly beautiful holiday home! Situated right at the top of the cliffs with the most stunning views of Whitby out of every window. Great transport links being right at the top of Whitby steps so you can choose the challenge of walking or the open top bus which my 4 year old adored! It was so good, we’re hoping to book the same time same place next year!
Many minor missing expected items ..and a very stiff hard to enter door. No kitchen roll but a holder. Basin and soap in toilet but no hand towel and plug was jammed in so water couldn’t be drained. There were 2 bath towels but only 1 hand towel in downstairs bathroom. Very cold and draughty ( high winds) as temperature seemed to max out eventually at 20. Minor issues mounting up. Parking place confusing as there we’re already 2 cars parked in designated area My wife 80 couldn’t use the shower over the bath in upstairs bathroom as ours was not working. There were no Instructions for appliances or tv which appeared to only have Samsung tv programmes.
Positive: Perfect little set up the property was lovely and all the facilities you could want. Views were amazing and more fun and worth the price paid! Negative: Could do with a deep clean for example around the toilet bowel, around the sink plug, alot of dust dead flies etc around the ledges in the living room. However Bedrooms were spotless
We had a lovely stay at Caedmon House. It was a little tricky to find at first but once we read the instructions it was very easy! Beautiful home with beautiful views of Whitby. Thank you for a lovely stay!
All of Whitby is beautiful but this location is stunning. The house was very comfortable, full of character.
ok, appreciate that but overall it’s been a pretty disappointing stay. The property standards have been well below standard and for the amount charged it’s not good enough. Apart from a leaking ceiling in the on suite bedroom the shower in the same room is so difficult to turn on it’s almost impossible to operate (this is mentioned many times in your custom feed back yet you have failed to fix the situation) I have had to complain on more than occasion about various missing items from the kitchen. (also no can opener which is pretty essential….again mentioned several times in your customer feedback) Also continuing boiler issues which require resetting the boiler unit itself to ensure heating and hot water (more than just resetting the the room thermostat from frost mode) We also had burn marks on upstairs carpet damage from what looks like heating tongs and bedside carpet stains in the downstairs bedroom. (photos available) Please consider us as very unhappy customers and will not be
Great location near abbey and taproom
Very nice place and situated in a very good spot in Whitby. There was a few maintenance issues we faced whilst we were there (heating problems, shower not working, leak in the roof) but all these were reported and addressed quickly by Host and Stay. Overall a good stay but some maintenance was required.
Had a lovely time at the cottage in Whitby. It is so close to the abbey which was really impressive. The cottage was clean and tidy with lots of space for the 5 of us. There were a couple of things to point out for others to be aware of: It is at the top of the 199 steps which is fine but does become a chore when you end up climbing 2 or 3 times a day. There was no soap so bring your own - 3 lots as 3 bathrooms/toilets. Everything else was lovely. May go back again but probably summer time - or when weather is better. The heating worked really well though and it was very warm inside.
Great location, quiet at night, cost and finished very well. Some small improvements would make things better: kitchen is missing basic items like tin opener, oven gloves, scrubbing brush etc. Would love to visit again.
Lovely location! Would recommend!
Wonderfu location lto explore Whitby Very spacious and warm
The house is beautiful and it is walking distance to the Main Street. However it is a bit hard to find the way to the house during night time, luckily the host respond very quickly and with the help of the video, we finally able to get to the house. So my suggestion is try your best to arrive during daytime.
Excellent stay. Fabulous location. Highly recommended
Was an amazing place to stay for Whitby, lovely cottage for our weekend away. Lovely clean cottage, beautiful views and helpful hosts. Only down side was where to park was super clear but we were able to leave the two cars by the cottage
We had a wonderful stay here, it is truly stunning, your back garden is literally the abbey. Home was clean and tidy, there was 6 of us and it felt as though we had more than enough room. The location is amazing, you do have to walk up and down the 199 steps to get to the property, but we found it was lovely doing this. Well worth the money. Thankyou.
Great stay at this home in the grounds of Whitby abbey. The views were lovely and parking was a bonus. Overall great location if you don’t mind getting up and down the 199 steps. Located near to Whitby brewery which was great. Hosts were really responsive and helpful.
Well what a gem of a place! Beautiful surroundings right next to the Abbey! Down the 199 steps to Whitby centre! Fabulous bars and restaurants. The house was stunning and immaculately clean. Will we stay again ….. ABSOLUTELY! Thank you!
Great location only 10 mins walk from the town centre (as long as you can manage the stairs on the way back). Accommodation was clean and very spacious so it gave us everything we needed.
Thank you for staying with us. We hope that you enjoyed your stay. We would love to welcome you back in one of our property in the future.
Amazing location and property, although the house is missing some cooking basics
Directions to property via video was excellent. A little disappointing that the parking is not marked on the ground, as there were 3 cars parked abreast, rather than 2, one for each property. It infers that the Coach House parking was also in that section, which confused guests. Property clean and tidy, however shower in en-suite left tap difficult to turn on and off. Messaged as we couldn’t turn it on, had to use other bathroom until we were instructed to be more forceful with it. I feel it would be worth taking a look at this. A blind to the upstairs bathroom would be beneficial as night-time you can see straight in. Overall a pleasant stay.
The location and building are beautiful, absolutely one of a kind. You won't find a better view of Whitby! The house was very spacious. Unfortunately, it wasn't very clean. There was lots of dust, a musty smell, and the bedding of one of the beds was covered in (dog?) hair. When we asked the host to deal with this problem, answers were evasive and further cleaner was not facilitated. We'd definitely recommend the location and unique airbnb, but don't expect a very clean place.
beautiful views, clean, tidy and spacious. would love to go back
Beautiful place with amazing views. Didn’t know we had access to the large garden and patio until the last night. Great kitchen. Wonderful stay
Fabulous weekend in Whitby and you can't beat the views and the location of this property, but the hosts describe the place as luxury. It may have been when first launched but overtime the deco has worn and items that may have been there have disappeared. The kitchen isn't well equipted, no tabs for dish washer, nothing more than cloth to wash up with, salt and pepper empty, dish washer door falling off and most cupboards empty. In the bathroom there was no place to hang the hand towel, no place for shower toiletries and no hand soap. The upstairs bathroom, as people mention before, has no blind so whilst sitting on the toilet you can view the parking area (and potentially they can view you) and in the downstairs bathroom the shower is almost inoperable due to stiff fitting to turn on and off. The outside space could also do with a good tidy up. I realise all of these are workable but when you are paying this price per night you expect to not have to think about these things.
I originally would of given the place 5 out of 5 for everything but the en suite shower did not work, well we couldn't get it to work. the position of the place is stunning. the app you get sent is extremely handy overall we had a wonderful stay.
We really enjoyed our stay at Caedmon House, the views were spectacular and the location was great being able to walk down the steps into Whitby. A really helpful guide to finding the property and using the property was provided and the host was very helpful with any questions. The house itself was lovely and very well presented. We would definitely return here if we were to stay in Whitby again.
Enjoyed every minute. Positive: Amazing location and the view's from this property can not be beaten, exceptional. Negative: There wasn't anything.
The location of this place is unmatched (providing you are able to get up and down into Whitby...). The views are tremendous and the house has everything that you need. Bathrooms were all very clean but the living room and halls desperately needed a good hoover - which we gave them. The kitchen could have been cleaner and there were some bits and pieces left over from previous guests. None of this ruined our stay and we would definitely revisit, depending on the price .
absolutely beautiful place, will definitely be returning!
Fantastic Airbnb in a truly beautiful location. Almost wherever we were on Whitby, we could see our Airbnb sat on top of the hill near the Abby. Really beautiful, well located accommodation.
We had a lovely weekend in Whitby and really enjoyed the location of the property – right near to the Whitby Brewery Taproom, with stunning views over the town. The property itself was warm and comfortable, which made for a relaxing stay. However, there are a few areas that could be improved. The property was difficult to find, and directions only arrived after we had already set off, which made the arrival more stressful than it needed to be. The listing mentioned an outdoor area, but there was no seating provided, which was disappointing – especially as this is something we always look for when choosing a place to stay. Compared to other Airbnb properties we've stayed in, this one lacked some basic essentials. A small amount of toilet paper was provided, very little washing-up liquid and hand soap, no dishwasher tablets and the kitchen utensils were very limited – which made self-catering more difficult than expected. Overall - good stay and with a few additions could be great.
We had a good time, good weather Positive: This was our 4th visit and the property is lovely and in a great location Negative: On this visit, we noticed that the windows were dirty and the windowsills very dusty. There was no soap in the bathrooms
Lovely location with beautiful views. Property was okay but could do with a little tlc
Great location, quiet and beautiful house. Would recommend.
Loved our stay and would definitely return for another visit .
This was a fantastic place to stay. The location was incredible and the whole home was comfortable, well kitted out and exactly as described. We will certainly stay here again, we loved it!
Great location with lovely views. Spacious rooms with all amenities as listed. Helpful instructions on how to find and access the property were provided. Slight pet smell when entering the property and could do with a deep clean and a fresh lick of paint. But was generally clean and tidy. Overall had a wonderful stay, Thank you!
Fantastic cottage to stay in Positive: The views and proximity to Whitby. The cottage was big, the rooms well sized. A lovely place. Negative: The front door was a pain to open and close every time. It rubbed at the bottom and required a hefty push or pull.
Had a great stay here and would recommended to anyone. Super location to be able to walk into Whitby and the Whitby brewery. The views of Whitby day and night are spectacular. Having the 2 car parking spaces is just so helpful compared to many places in Whitby.
What an absolutely lovely place to stay. Such a great location so close to the Abbey with great views from every window. The house was very cosy and welcoming. We will be back.
Positive: Great location and fantastic views from all windows. Had a really nice stay, home from home.
Absolutely stunning location overlooking the bay of Whitby. Right next to the museum and out of the hussle and bussle meaning you could relax yet easy to get down to Whitby. Parts of the property could do with a little updating but beautifully restored for an old building. Only extra thing it needed was a radiator in the hallway as really cold on that part of the house. Thanks for the stay though would definitely go back xx
Beautiful cottage in a Great location!
Fantastic stay. Positive: Loved the location and the size and quality of the accommodation. Negative: Nothing
Beautiful place ..stunning location .. can't wait to go back
Lovely stay. Slightly trickey to find but good directions given by the host. Very private and peaceful with good amenities. Beautifully decorated.
Lovely quiet place with fabulous veiws. Just make sure you watch the video when locating the property as it is a bit tricky to find.
A relaxed stay in lovely accommodation Positive: A well maintained very clean property , fitted with quality furnishings Everything you could need for a stay in Whitby The location and the views were wonderful Negative: Nothing
Place was great and enjoyed our time.
the house was beautiful right by the abbey! couldn’t ask for more
Wonderful stay! We have been to Whitby many many times and this was a stand out location! The location was perfect with a stunning view of Whitby Abbey. The hosts were very responsive to our messages and we would highly recommend and look forward to booking this again Thank you!
Amazing location , right next to the Abbey with great views over Whitby Positive: Location was perfect
Positive: Location, setting and views Negative: The property smelt of kippers, would of been nice if air fresheners had been provided
A great house in a superb location Positive: The location and comfy beds Negative: Nothing
Location of cottage amazing. Gorgeous views of Whitby from windows and Abbey from front door. Space well configured. Simply and stylishly decorated and very comfortable. Would love to stay again but some technical issues need addressing. Some things mentioned in previous guest reviews still not addressed - stiff door lock (resolved by oiling); first floor ensuite shower difficult to work; 2nd floor bathroom windows at floor level have no blinds but overlook parking area; sink in first floor toilet wasn't draining as plug stuck down; no oven gloves etc. Also the outdoor wheelie bin seemed to have vanished but hopefully Host and Stay will resolve this. Also have concerns that the front door is the only way out with no internal mechanism (like a sneck) to let yourself out other than the key. Could be fabulous with tweaks so still gave 4 stars.
ロケーションとコテージからの景色が最高でした。
Lovely property in an amazing location! Positive: High quality property in an amazing location next to the Abbey with unbelievable views over Whitby. Negative: No drawers in the bedrooms, no welcome pack/hamper
The cottage is in a really lovely location in the grounds of Whitby Abbey, the views from the cottage are great and it’s very close to the start of a stunning coastal walk. It’s looks like the pictures but would really benefit from a good, deep, clean. It was dusty, cobwebs, oven unclean, windows unclean, sofa stained and cushions torn. I messaged the host when we arrived to report the issues but never got a response. I assume the messages we did get were automated. Good e-guide provided and a helpful video on how to access the property as that is not obvious. The location probably / possibly justified the price but such a shame it wasn’t in a better condition - that should be an easy fix.
Not a happy bunny 😡😡 Positive: Nice area but that's it!! Negative: Poor response for outstanding issues Dirty kitchen equipment Mould/Dirt in shower cubicle Broken shower in en suite Only providing lip service for our 4 day stay
Great location for a quiet break, very nice location, great views from kitchen and living room, we had a wonderful stay thanks!
The weekend was so relaxing because the property was comfortable in every way Positive: It was maintained to the highest of standards. Spectacular views Negative: There was nothing to dislike.
Perfect. Will book again Positive: Perfect views of Whitby.Lovely house, comfortable!Had thought of everything! Negative: Shower in main bedroom was a bit difficult to turn.
Lovely cottage to stay in- had a few issues with getting in, heating and water. After this was sorted we enjoyed our stay. It’s amazingly close to the abbey and the cottage itself has been done up very modern.
Positive: fabulous location
Excellent
Positive: Glorious views!! Quiet location. Negative: Loved everything
Excellent position of house but parking was confusing. Positive: views of Whitby were spectacular Negative: parking was confusing as it was not clearly marked and we had to park in an awkward position
Excellent accommodation and location - can’t wait to return Positive: Location was amazing, and the facilities, decor and comfort inside were excellent. The layout was brilliant and exactly what we needed - large communal areas but also privacy when needed Negative: Nothing
A lovely weekend away in a beautiful property with stunning views. Positive: A beautiful proprty with stunning views. It was very clean on arrival and the beds were very comfortable. It was only a short distance from all the main attractions, not least the abbey which was literally on our doorstep.I think it was good value and would recommend it. Negative: We were not able to park in the allotted car parking space as the car park was full throughout our stay so ended up parking in front of the property which I felt a bit stressed about. This was not helped as we departed, when, we assume, the cleaner, who had arrived early blocked us in initially and then was quite challenging with us about where we had had to park. We left feeling a bit upset. An oven glove in the kitchen might be a good safety feature.
Beautiful House With Stunning Views! Positive: As soon as we entered the living room we were all blown away by the stunning views of the town below. We stepped up in to the kitchen where the amazing views of the town and sea continued to mesmerise us. The house was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The kitchen was a great place to dine and we enjoyed relaxing on the huge comfy sofa. The location right by the abbey was amazing because it was so peaceful and quiet. You have to be organised in terms of provisions as you can't just pop to the local shop but this was a small price to pay to stay in such an amazing property. Negative: We found the lack of blinds in the upstairs bathroom way too exposing so we propped pillows against the windows for privacy. The bottom of the cafetiere was missing. Other than that faultless!
Not happy about important items missing in kitchen:- NO cafetière as it was broken, only the top in a cupboard. NO pods only the coffee pod machine NO blinds or curtains in upstairs bathroom /toilet over the 2 floor level windows overlooking front of accommodation and carpark. DANGEROUS projecting bedbase sticking out over wrongly shaped matress. It was easily walked into so gouged my shin VERY BADLY which is still not healed 2 weeks later. Communications with host and stay received exactly the same 2 stock replies no matter how many times commented. NO full compliment of toiletries in all bathrooms and sinks.
Absolutely loved staying here, we will definitely be returning. The instructions on where to park could be added on instructions and the place was a tad dusty but everything was amazing and really cozy place.
a lovely gem … ideally situated for a stay in whitby… this is a well maintained place with stunning views.
Positive: Lovely views over Whitby, near the brewery. Plenty of space in house. When contacted host did sort out our problem. Negative: Problem with radiators, 5 out of 9 cold. Dust and mould on some windows. Needs draws In bedrooms. Coat rack in hall would be handy.
Great cottage. Private parking for 2 cars in Whitby is very rare.
Absolutely beautiful place to stay in Whitby, literally right next to the Abbey. The house is modern and cosy on the inside. It boasts lovely views of the whole harbour. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again.
A beautiful holiday stay in the perfect location, very spacious and nicely furnished, would definitely recommend!
Great stay in a fantastic location
