Perfect space for a single person or couple, bonus that I was able to bring my dog with me. Parking was a little tricky in Whitby (but that’s not down to the place) - I found a long stay car park 2 streets away. There is a loading bay outside of the place if you want to unload / load with lugging your stuff around. The place was quaint and such a great location to walk to everything. It was also very quiet in the evening. throughly enjoyed the stay and will recommend.

I enjoyed my stay at Burns Yard Apartment in Whitby and would recommend for solo travellers and couples wanting to stay Positive: The property was in a great location just a short walk from the seafront. The view from the property was a perk as in the mornings I could have breakfast with a nice view of the Abbey and Church. The bed was comfy and clean and there were plenty of tv channels for entertainment on rainy days. The dishwasher was a great addition, as it made washing up easier, with tablets provided by the owners. Overall the property was great for me as a solo traveller, with easy access to the things I wanted. Negative: There were some minor issues with the property. The microwave didn’t sound safe to use and I could not find instructions to check for a fault, so was nervous when heating up food during my trip. There were minor cleanliness issues with some dust and fluff on the floor in areas and built up scum in the bathroom, but this was negligible overall. These issues did not affect my overall stay, and I would recommend the property to those looking for a stay in Whitby.

Buyer beware Positive: Great view Negative: You can only online check-in to get the passcode for the key, there is an add on for damage waiver £25 BEWARE if you're traveling on a budget, no parking permit was left as described so had to park half a mile away or pay £9 per day, cleaning fee are part of the booking but didn't look like the cleaner was in from the previous occupants Apartment looking tired compared to the pictures, part of the top floor banister missing so there's an accident waiting to happen Not very well cleaned, the cleaner needs to plug the vacuum cleaner in when pushing over the carpet and use a mop on the laminate floors, bathroom not cleaned to a standard either

Disappointing. Negative: The description of the apartment didnt reflect the actual property. There are lots of stairs into and within the property not suitable for elderly or for people with even slight mobility issues. We had to come home as we couldn't access the property due to the amount of stairs. This needs adding to the description of the property, if we had known we wouldnt have booked this property.

Difficult to find, but when he did it was an ideal location. Steep stairs to enter apartment then to get to the kitchen area, so anyone that has mobility problems would struggle.

Really lovely property, the views from the living area of the abbey is amazing. Good selection of pots and pans available. The location is fabulous and it was really quiet at night time. No grassed area outside for pups that will only wee on grass, there is a little park just a few minutes walk away though.The general cleanliness was great apart from the bedroom needed a good hoover in the corners.Had a lovely stay and would stay there again.

Enjoyable Positive: The property was very good overall,I knew what to expect as from Whitby originally so knew what the cottages converted to apartments were like in Burns Yard. Negative: The only problem was being on the upper floor,the stairs were steep,twisty and narrow and hard to navigate especially with a large suitcase,there's also not enough room for door opening with a suitcase we found one had to hold the suitcase exile stood back on the stairs while the ither unlocked and opened the door then had to pass the suitcase to the other person as not enough room to pass each other and neither of us are large I'm 5.1 a size 8 my daughter 5.4 size 10 anyone larger would find it extremely difficult to navigate or not be able too due to how narrow the staircase is especially the second one,unfortunately theres not a lot the hosts could do about it tho because of it being a cottage converted to apartments,we knew what to expect as know the cottages and what there like it others however especially those who've never expirenced whitby before or a cottage won't,maybe a warning about the narrow stairs is needed when booking.

Positive: Location. Lay out. Pretty clean. Great views. Negative: Settee was uncomfortable Some details needing attention. Flakey paint, not 100 percent clean, loose screws at front door, partner had to unblock bathroom sink and tap fixed with electrical tape. Misinformation about check out.

Needs improvements. Overall good stay Positive: Lovely modern apartment. Great location. Negative: The property could do with a lick of paint & new carpets. The carpets on the stairs did smell and was extremely dirty. Also needs painting, has filled in holes which haven’t been painted over and scuff marks all over the walls. The apartment isn’t sign posted very well and can be hard to find and slightly concerning that the main front door of the building has no lock mechanism in. I had tried reaching out to the property managers several times on booking.com to ask if there was going to be any Christmas decorations up for our stay or if not I’d bring some small things myself. Upon the management company couldn’t get hold of the owner on several occasions which was slightly concerning. It also said on the downloadable hand book that check out on the day of departure was 12, so as I’d thought plenty of time. At 9:20am I got a message from the management company to say we needed to be out by 10am and that the 12pm checkout stated on the handbook wasn’t correct. Leaving me 40 minutes to quickly pack and leave before 10am. Meaning we was unable to have the time to shower or eat breakfast before check out. This was a massive inconvenience.

Ok for our short stay Positive: Amazing view out of the lounge window. Comfy bed. Stylish kitchen. Efficient heating. Well placed for the restaurants and little shops. Negative: 3 flights of steep stairs with luggage was difficult. It took some time to find it & to find suitable parking some distance away. The passageway to it was not nice & you needed a torch at night as most of it was unlit.

Positive: Comfy bed and bedding, nice decor, good size fridge cooking facilities, good shower fabulous view. Very nice small apartment. Negative: Quite awkward getting into apartment the way the stairs are with heavy bags, BUT it's an old small building so to be expected.

Positive: The view from the apartment is awesome, you can see the Abbey n all over Whitby. Location is excellent. Negative: A lot of very steep steps up to the apartment. Even with a parking permit we had to park a long way off.

Apartment was ok but looking a bit tired and in need of a facelift. Nothing too major but could do with some maintenance attention and TLC. Bathroom window doesn’t open, mould around other windows, flaking decoration, broken bathroom cabinet.

Very peaceful and a lovely view Positive: The veiw from the sitting room window was amazing Negative: The bed was like sleeping on concrete. There was not enough cupboard space to put your clothes away. Decoration looks very tired. Paint flaking of the walls. The kitchen facilities was very sparse!!!. Tv set up very challenging, so we did not bother with the TV.

The host uses a company that sends dozens of upsell messages. Instructions are good. But the download didn’t work off line. Parking info was difficult to access so arriving was pretty stressful. Very steep stairs in the property with few handrails. But loved y area and dubious view to the abbey.

Good location. Short walk from the station. Cafe close by for breakfast . Comfortable bed.

First impression is not good. Entrance is in an alley off the main road. The apartment is not for people with disabilities or who have problems with stairs. From the door off the alley you have steep steps up to the door of the apartment. Then you have the same to the first floor & again to the second. On floor one you have the bathroom & bedroom. On the second floor is an open plan kitchen/living room. Positives are the apartment is clean, well maintained & has all the appliances you need i.e. washer, dishwasher, fridge, freezer. It has a lovely view of the abbey from the living room. The shower is hot & powerful & there is plenty of room for a couple. Good quality TV with SKY. Also the location is excellent. Only a 5 minute walk to West Cliff or the harbour. There is a loading bay outside the alley so you can drop off your luggage before parking the car. Negatives, apart from the stairs, is the lack of storage space. The bedroom only has a hanging rail. Even though there is plenty of space, there is no wardrobe or chest of drawers. If you were here for a week, your clothes would have to be kept in your suitcase. A free standing fan would have been good in the hot weather we are having. Also if you have a pet, there is no outside space. We had to take the dog for a walk when he wanted a comfort break. Day or night. Overall though a pleasant break. The apartment grows on you. It’s clean, spacious & in a great location. Free Zone W parking permit included in the price.

Really nice, perfect place. Close to everything

Was very cold when we first got there however once we turned all the radiators on it did eventually warm up after a few hours, also a broken cupboard in the bathroom but other than that was a lovely stay and would stay there again

sadly this place was not very clean at all. our host offered to get it re-cleaned, which I appreciate was their only option to offer, but in all honesty it needs a real deep clean and a quick visit by the cleaner wasn't going to impact it. The bed was very comfortable here, this was a saving grace. As stated in the details the stairs are not for the faint hearted, they are indeed a challenge. We didn't get a parking card, this was listed in the welcome pack sent to us, but when I enquired about it I was told it's no longer included and they'd mistakenly told us to expect one. This makes parking a headache on a busy weekend. Host offers late check out quite reasonably priced, but actually not worth it because we didn't feel like hanging around here.

Spectacular view of the Whitby Abbey and central location. We were looking for a more quiet and serene location based on a trip I had made to Whitby years ago and my lack of research took us into the middle of the town which was very busy, even though it was the beginning of the shoulder season. Nice complete and modern kitchen but the unit could definitely benefit from a good cleaning and touch of paint. The stairs in the unit are definitely not for anyone who has mobility issues, as they are steep, narrow and winding.

Had a really lovely time in the Burns Yard Apartment, great location, clean and welcoming environment, all needs were met and very comfy bed! Thanks so much for a brilliant stay

Positive: Great location! And pretty spacious! Negative: Could have done with some storage, I.e,, a wardrobe or draws in the bedroom. Also was missing a baking/oven tray!

All was ok apart from a great big fungus growing between the bathroom sink the exterior wall and floor it was disgusting I can’t believe that the cleaners hadn’t seen it and removed it or had it removed it was massive and made us feel sick growing fungus is dangerous and very unhygienic can cause serious illness.

Location is great and very close to the centre of Whitby, gorgeous views of the harbour and the abbey. The room was generally clean but is a bit rough in areas on the walls with marks and stains, carpet had the same issue and is coming up in places. Could do with a refresh.

We had stayed many times in Whitby, this was our first time with Host & Stay. The apartment was lovely and the views over Whitby were breath taking. the location is perfect for everything Whitby has to offer. The Apartment was perfect, the only down side was all the stairs, once in the apartment there was no problems, but you have a sheard door and staircase to your front door, then another flight to the Bedroom floor. The living/kitchen on the floor above. This was not to much of a problem for use, but might be for others. I would still recommend staying here as its location and views are excellent, as its location.

Lovely apartment Positive: The location is great. The apartment has everything you need and was clean apart from the areas mentioned. I think the rating is unfair, I was worried after reading the reviews, but we were happy with it. The view of the abbey is amazing. Negative: A couple of areas that could have been cleaner (oven door was dirty and light fittings had cobwebs), but this was easily resolved. The stairs are an issue for people with mobility problems but didn't affect us.

Pleasantly surprised with a beautiful view. Positive: I was quite apprehensive about this stay due to negative reviews that had been posted since we made the booking however, we were pleasantly surprised. The location is perfect and the view from the lounge area is beautiful. The property had everything that we needed for our stay and was clean (despite previous reviews). The host was easy to contact via message and got back to us quickly. Negative: I think the advert for the property needs updating to reflect there are steep stairs in the property and it is not suitable for anyone with accessibility needs (fortunately we had no issues). Some parts are tired and need a lick of paint but this did not affect our stay and we would be happy to stay again in the future.

The flat was as described. Great views from the bifold window and superb location. The flat had been well prepared and host and stay responded quickly. There had been some negative reviews about cleanliness but these were not evident. Prob just cleaner staffing issues. Easy to find- the alley opposite the angel pub. Zero noise from neighbours. The stairs are steep but that’s how you get the views. The flat is small but modern. The pics are accurate. The parking permit was excellent. We parked the car just around the corner which was great. All in all we had a great stay

No drawers for your drawers On Arrival the carpets look very tired and musty smell. Bathroom is tiny loo roll holder and bin is rusty and dirty. Shower is in need of regrouting and no space in bathroom for toiletries just a window sill. Bedroom has only a rail for clothes a

Positive: Great Location, great view over the old town. Central to pubs and restaurants and just a short walk to the harbour. Really well equipped & comfortable. Host was friendly and kept in contact before and during our stay. Negative: Couldn stay longer, and the weather was a bit on the damp side. Nothing else.

Cold dusty and untidy Positive: The view and location Negative: No heating in the bedroom, a problem they obviously knew about but chose to ignore, the shower was grubby and mouldy, there was thick dust everywhere , mop , bucket and vacuum cleaner both parked in the bedroom. TV and sky remotes both had flat batteries, I would not recommend staying there.

Nice apartment but some things can be improved to make the stay better. Positive: The apartment was in the centre of Whitby Close to everything we needed for the weekend . It was lovely , clean and comfortable with great views out the window towards the Abbey and harbour. Negative: The microwave oven needs changing and a couple of the electric radiators did not work . But overall it was a lovely stay .

We love Whitby and have been visiting for over 30 years. Our worst experience. Positive: The location was good, in the centre of Whitby. The view was great. Negative: The postcode situation to locate property is a nightmare. Being 20m way means nothing when surrounded by so many interlocking buildings and such limited parking. Suggest describing property as opposite Little Angel public house. The signage to Burns Yard is only visible from one direction.

Weekend break Positive: Good location. Negative: Narrow entrance not easy to park to drop off luggage etc. Too many stairs to get to living space. Not really suitable for a dog or child friendly. Overall cleanliness an issue.

Expensive for what it turned out to be. Positive: Location (in town centre) Negative: Two out of the four electric radiators didnot work, The stairway was dirty, looked like it never been cleaned (no vacuum cleaner was provided, so i couldnt do it!) The microwave magnetron made a horrible noise (dangerous?)

Over priced and damp Positive: Great location and lovely view from the kitchen area. Negative: Property smelt damp and fusty, mugs in the kitchen were dirty and so was the stair way leading to the flat. Quite over priced considering the condition of some parts of the property. We were a bit disappointed.

Very tired and not clean Positive: The location and the view Negative: It was not clean ,we left a day earlier due ti it being dirty ,the pictures must of been taken when it was first done ,very very tired,tried to ring them ,but the number was not recognised, the floors had not been moped as the mop was bone dry the fridge had a smell to it ,as that had not been cleaned,dirty tea towel in washing machine ,they really do need to give this a deep clean ,or change the cleaning company ,I went out and bought bleach to clean myself.

We made the mistake of booking based on the pictures in the description of the apartment. The alarm bells started to ring when we read the reviews, quite a few commented on the condition of the place when they arrive. Having paid in full the non-refundable £302 & also the mandatory £25 insurance. We had no option but to go hoping the owners had listened to previous comments. On arrival the 1st thing that hit us was the smell, especially on the stairs & in the bedroom. The carpet had quite clearly never seen a hoover & was in desperate need of a clean. (no hoover on site to clean ourselves) When we entered the kitchen area the door for the washing machine was on the floor, the freezer drawers where all broken & all the units where covered in greasy hand marks. In the living room the sofa was on the verge the of collapse & the window sills where all full of debris. Its such a pity the owners haven't maintain the apartment from when it was renovated because it has so much potential.

This apartment is amazing!! The setup was perfect for us. Lots of stairs (maybe a down side) but we got loads of steps in going and up and down them ( I only slid/fell down them twice - lol). The view through the gorgeous bifold window is amazing. Every day, I'd get up and open up the window and just sit staring at Whitby Abbey across the harbour. Stunning!! Location - amazing! Being on Flowergate, right at the heart of Whitby - central to everything we needed to get during Folk Week. We had a lovely time and loved the apartment!! We'd love to come back.

Just not clean at all. View was amazing but for what we paid we expected to have a clean apartment, however it was covered in marks/stains, our towels were dirty and the bathroom was unclean with previous guests hair being left all around. Was very pleased with the location/view but in general the apartment was not clean.

Dreadful. Positive: The view from the picture window Negative: The apartment was extremely grubby thick layers of dust on freestanding mirror bathroom bin and banister hand rails this was not recent dust but an accumulation of weeks. Dirty cups left in the cupboard. Draw in the bathroom absolutely filthy and unusable. Bathroom tap held together with insulation tape. The tap exploded on the first day spewing steam out a getting very hot with a strong smell of burning tripped the electrics. We were told to switch the power of by maintenance, after 6 days the tap had still not been replaced so we using the kitchen are for hand washing after using the toilet teeth cleaning etc. Daily emails sent to Host and Stay with no success or resolution. I would avoid at all costs and would never use Host and Stay again. Booking. Com have tried their best (I thank them for that) for a resolution for us but even they have been unsuccessful. I have lodged a complaint with Host and Stay but don’t hold much hope.

Whitby fabulous as usual . Wouldn’t book a host and stay again. Damage insurance a rip off. This property looks stylish Positive: Good location off Flowergate. Great vista from lounge window. Negative: It was grubby and dusty. Scary steep stairs. Two steep spiral , one normal flight to apartment door which opens out over the stairs. Chipped cups, dirty pans. Dustpan but no brush. No dish sponge, just a j cloth .Ragged tea towel. Floor and carpets dirty. Cleaner had just left. The mop was dry as a bone.main view window not clean. No pillow or mattress protectors on bed. We stripped the bedding when we left. OMG! The mattress!! Badly stained.Yuk. If we’d seen that first we wouldn’t have stayed.Sofa not comfortable. Feels like you would slide off. Shared entrance which they ask you to leave unlocked. Didn’t feel very secure with that idea.

Sorry not for me will not return Positive: View from the apartment over Whitby was spectacular. Although you could not open the window due to a nesting pair of seagulls with chicks ! Negative: No check in information had to send an email for details. £250 excess damage waiver extra hidden charge and NOT fully refunded. Steep staircase , no safety handrail on one side, unstable glass infilled balustrade very hazardous. No lock on front door, chipped crockery, mouldy shower, sofa uncomfortable, no bar stools, smelly not aired, flaky paint, windows were very dirty. The pictures look fabulous but it is not the reality.

Nice Apartment Positive: Great apartment with a superb view from the living room window. The hosts were quick to respond to any problems. All in all a very enjoyable stay. Negative: Only thing I'd suggest, the directions you give to find Burns Yard take everyone to Clarkson St. It would be much simpler to say.......Go to The Little Angel pub on Flowergate,, directly across the road from the pub,you'll see a small alley entrance. That is Burns Yard.

Avoid this place like the plague… Staying in this place was the nightmare that we really did not need. As we arrived, we were met with an inhabitable apartment. The place was disgusting, where I left after an hour as I could not bear to stay any longer. I booked a different place and told the host how awful this was. The place was massively unloved, needed refurbishing and the photos had clearly been taken a good while ago. There was faeces and pubic hair on the toilet, and toilet brush. The bathroom tap was taped together, and there was lots of black mould in the shower. There was living and dead insects in the bedroom, along with a lot of dust and dirt everywhere! The kitchen cupboards were falling off, there was food, dog hairs and stains all over the dining chairs and sofa. I contacted the host for a refund which they did not think was acceptable as I have not allowed them to rectify this. The place needs refurbishing entirely, not just a spring clean!! DO NOT BOOK!!

Positive: Good location, stunning views Negative: Spent a while looking for this property as the postcode you are provided with is incorrect which I think sums up the competency of this company. Please spend your money with a rental company that actually respects their guests and values their money. Property was awfully maintained, in desperate need of a new coat of paint and new carpets. Most of the issues I had have previously been raised and the company had said they will be addressed but they haven’t. List of faults: Bottom drawer in bathroom is broken and really mouldy inside, the tap is kept together with tape and the rod holding the shower up is broken so will fall on you. The drawers in the freezer are smashed so you can only open the bottom one, dishwasher and kitchen blinds are broken. Sofa desperately needs replacing, it’s like sitting on a park bench. Property was dirty when I arrived, floors hadn’t been vacuumed, kitchen cupboards were sticky, surfaces were grimy and there were layers of dust snd cobwebs everywhere. Facilities weren’t great. I was given 2 sachets of coffee, two teabags, 4 sachets of sugar and four sachets of milk for 3 nights stay so you’ll need to bring your own tea/coffee things. No oil, salt or pepper in the kitchen if you want to cook and no baking trays for the oven (but there are pans, crockery and cutlery). I spent two hours on my first day locked out of this property because of a faulty lock that needed to be replaced and was unable to get hold of anyone for half an hour during this time.

Great location, AMAZING VIEWS and a very clean apartment. Only notes are the pillows and duvet are very cheap and not the most comfy, get around that and this place is awesome

Despite the few issues, we did have a marvellous time. Positive: The property really has the most amazing view and is in a great location to get everywhere. Negative: The stairs up to and in the property are very steep. At the top, one side, there isn’t a side to the stairs making it difficult to climb the last bit. The lower drawer in the bathroom sink cabinet was mouldy. Not all the rings worked on the hob.

Very pleasant apartment, well equipped kitchen and lovely views of the sea and the abbey in the distance! Great location in the town centre but you need to be careful parking as it is easy to get a ticket due to the on street parking scheme. Overall a very enjoyable stay!

Positive: The set up in the flat, the location, the view. Negative: It was quite shabby, that is, not well looked after - mainly in the hall and bedroom. It wasn’t anywhere near as clean as I would expect from a rental property. I actually don’t think it had been cleaned before our arrival.

Good location but wouldn’t return Positive: Good location Negative: Parking scratch card not provided as promised and had to request it, it was dropped off on day 2. A little shabby, needed painting and a deep clean. Think the cleaning only goes as far as a hoover and wipe down of surfaces. There were cobwebs and dust everywhere, mould in shower, kitchen and cups, cutlery, pots and pans not clean. They don’t provide washing up liquid and the pans don’t fit in the dishwasher so I wonder if they’ve ever been washed properly. Had to wash everything before use. Stained carpets and uncomfortable furniture. Neighbours were loud at all hours.
