Positive: There was no accommodation available! So this booking did not go ahead!! Negative: We were informed that the accommodation was not available 30 minutes before our check in time! My wife, daughter and 2 young grand children were left without accommodation! Stranded in Whitby!! They had to return home! Time off work, personal arrangements had been made to stay here! + the disappointment at telling our grandkids that the weekend away was not going to happen!!! To date still no refund!
No heating no hot water, ruined our holidays. Positive: Place itself was ok, although there was no wood for log burner. Negative: On arrival I found out there was no heating and hot water. There was 6 degrees Celcius in the flat. The boiler was broken. Contacted the phone number provided and was told we have to wait for maintenance team. We had to wait 5 hrs before their maintenance team (one person) arrived and confirmed the boiler is failed and they have no spare parts so could not be repaired any time soon. We had 3yr old and 12yr old kids with us but nobody was bothered, no offer to bring electric heaters or at least wood for the burner, unbelievable lack of customer care. At 21:45 we left the property with the technician and headed back to Sheffield. Asked for refund, was told they had to investigate 10 working days, then email said refund will be within 10 working days... nothing happened, no explanation. Had to contacted credit card company to get refund which the property owners are now challenging. Don't think I have to carry on, you get the picture.

Worst place I have ever stayed Positive: **Review of Boutique Balcony, Metropole, Whitby Apartment** Unfortunately, this apartment did not meet my expectations. On the first night, the fire alarms went off throughout the building, forcing all guests to meet outside. At least I suppose it’s a good sign that they work. By the third night, the fuse box had an issue, causing all plugs and the internet to go out. I had to call maintenance, and then on the last night, we experienced a leak in the kitchen from the roof fire alarm fitting. I had to call maintenance again, and it was still leaking when I left! **Accommodation** The double bed was very small, leaving little room for two people and significantly impacting our sleep quality. Upon entering the building, I was greeted by an entrance that resembled a construction site. This unwelcoming atmosphere was further compounded by the smell of cannabis, which hit me every time I entered. It was quite off-putting and made for a less-than-pleasant experience. Going to the bins in the building was a health hazard and absolutely disgusting. 🤢 Inside the apartment, I was disappointed to find that the blinds in both bedrooms and the windows were dirty. There were cobwebs in every corner, indicating it hadn’t been cleaned for my arrival. The overall cleanliness was the worst I have seen, with dusty windowsills and floors that showed signs of spills. The balcony, which I had looked forward to using, was completely unusable due to bird droppings and extensive scaffolding that was not mentioned during the booking process. The term "boutique balcony" is a complete misnomer for this apartment. While the kitchen was well-equipped, I was frustrated to find that there were no cleaning supplies available, forcing me to purchase them myself. Additionally, we had a leak in the kitchen roof, and nobody came to address the issue. To add to the inconvenience. Reflecting on my experience, I regret not reading the reviews before booking this apartment.
Fell short on expectations. Positive: The location was great. A quick walk to the sea front and an easy walk down into the main bay at Whitby. The lining was fresh with plenty of towels. Full kitchen of utensils and pans/pots. Negative: As much as the property was nicely decorated. It was a little tatty. The hardwood floors were dirty, could have done with a hoover and mop under the seats and around the table as you could see a covering of dust. And also the main rug had thick black hair that had not been hoovered. The screws in the toilet door handle were coming out. Surfaces were dusty and could have done with a polish. The pillows in the bedrooms could do with replacing as they were very thin. Lack of instructions for the induction hob made hard work cooking - not everyone has induction hobs and I needed to google how to use them. We also had issues sorting the parking ticket out and had to pay for a day (which isn’t a problem) but when you book somewhere because of the accessible parking you expect it to be sorted before you arrive. The balcony was off limits due to ongoing building works which was not advertised at the time of booking - I understand we couldn’t use it, and the note on the door explaining why, but it was filthy. Could have been swept at least, but nothing. For a place where you can’t enter until 4pm, it was annoying that the property was still dusty and unkept. It fell short on some aspects of our stay which is such a shame.
Excellent host responded to all my enquiries promptly. We were in Whitby for a wedding and the location was perfect. The Positive: Property good location for centre of Whitby.clean and had great amenities. Everything you need for a family of four. Building is very grand although tired but the apartment was well maintained and clean. Negative: Unfortunately scaffolding around the whole building did mean we were unable to use the balcony.
Beautiful apartment in perfect location with free parking. We got a lovely hamper with loads of goodies. It’s only 10 mins walk to the whale bones, not far into Whitby town. Pizza West is the must visit, great atmosphere, amazing foods with excellent service. You have to book a few weeks in advance to get in. The apartment was clean but look up 🕸️ especially while in the shower. The biggest 🕸️🕸️ I ever seen! It’s didn’t bother us. We booked this apartment last mins and it was worth what we paid with reduced price, I wouldn’t pay like to anymore but nowhere is cheap these days. It’s what worth what we paid for a lovely last mins mini break away. Location and apartment couldn’t be anymore perfect with easy parking. Not alot of place have parking in Whitby.

Positive: Loved the Boutique Balcony apartment. Stayed here a couple of times in years gone by. Very well equipped for your needs and very comfortable area to sit and chat. TVs in both bedrooms a great addition. Loads of instant hot water and lovely and warm rooms. Lovely welcome pack too. Negative: The apartment was clean but just quite dusty in places. Skirting boards,behind doors and bedroom blinds. Just let it down very slightly for me but would still return.

Stunning view, convenient location, pleasant, comfy interior made up for shortcomings mentioned. Positive: Good location, away from the centre but still near. Amazing views of ocean and east cliff. Watched the most beautiful sunrise over Whitby Abbey every morning. Mere feet away from the promenade for peaceful walks. Tidy, pleasant surroundings, comfy beds. Negative: Bedroom blinds incompatible with windows. I need fresh, cool air in the warmer months, as I suffer from hyperhidrosis, and I had to choose between privacy and ventilation. Even with the blinds fully raised (and giving the neighbours a direct view of my bedroom), I couldn't fully open my window. Living room design, with shutters, much more practical. Balcony a bit messy and obviously not regular part of cleaning schedule between guests. Was able to sit out there, but quite cobwebby, dusty in spots and balcony doors streaked with bird poo. Almost all doors needed oiling. Downsides would be easy fixes for the owners.

Lovely apartment, which is really close to the main centre. The only negative thing for me was the bed was on the small side, I'm used to sprawling and spreading out according to my husband. The oven took a while to work out too but would definitely come again and recommend. Also, if you have mobility issues that maybe an obstacle,although there is a small lift.
The location is great to investigate Whitby. The apartment is on the 3rd floor with a lift so no issues with access. The apartment is a good size and has a great view of the Abbey. However the apartment comes with street parking when using a parking scratch card, this was not supplied and after a very difficult time trying to contact the owner (3 attempts) they finally contacted us but failed to resolve the problem! If you have ever visited Whitby you will know how expensive the parking is! Plus we noticed how dusty the apartment was, especially in the bedrooms! Overall we will not be using this apartment again.
Wouldn't choose to stay again, expensive for what it was. Positive: Nice size apartment. Clean enough inside. Negative: Door bracket hanging off inside entrance door over our heads when entering the apartment. Couldn't use the balcony. Chairs left pushed over and balcony floor covered in pigeon poop. Washing machine unusable. Door lock would not clasp. Car park entrance seemed uncared for.
Positive: Down fall of this property the windows do not open we tried everything to open the windows and the heat was awful so not happy at all as we have a child with a bad chest I would not stay again as the windows are a big no for me Negative: Nice views but needs a clean as it was dusty
Soul weekender Positive: Really like the fact that there was a lift in the property, the location were very good for access to the Pavilion. The property was very spacious, and very equipped with very good space for 5 adults. A very nice touch was the welcome hamper , appreciated the the contents such as tea bags / coffee / biscuits etc. Lovely views of the Abbey and harbour. Also very quiet within the building so very little noise. Negative: There was really only one issue for us was that we dropped something on the bedroom floor and when we looked under the bed we were disappointed to find a lot of dust and items such as a guitar plectrum, a syringe and small plastic bag.

Location great but the wouldn't stay in that building again. Positive: Location Negative: The apartment is based within a really dilapidated building that smelt of damp and I found it creepy. I wouldn't like to stay there with a group of girls, I wouldn't feel safe. Apartment was nice, it just needed a good deep clean. The blinds were thick with dust and the Tele was grey it was that dusty.

We love Whitby! Positive: A great location close to the beach and only a short walk into the town. It had everything you needed for a short stay. Beds were lovely and comfortable. Negative: The lift was broke on arrival and the number of steps to the apartment would have been fine if I didn’t have my parents with me who are in their late 70’s. It’s not the cleanest property, clumps of dust on the floor, the dust pan was full of the previous persons clean up (we presumed) surfaces needed to be wiped down. A little extra TLC and this would have been an amazing apartment to stop in.
Great apartment only a 10 min walk from the town centre. Great facilities in the apartment and the welcome box of treats went down a storm. We will definitely be back.

Accomodation as described and in a great location to use as a base for all the local area has to offer. Building itself is showing its age but the flat has been done to a great standard and felt like a little oasis of calm from the very windy weather during our stay. Lovely welcome basket too. Would definitely seek out another stay through Host & Stay.

We stayed in this apartment for 2 nights and we were not disappointed. A beautiful place which was well catered for, clean, and spacious. It has everything you need, including tea bags, coffee, sugar, shower gels, cooking oil, milk sachets and dishwasher tablets. A basket of goodies had been left for us which was a really nice touch. It has a lovely view of the sea from the balcony, with the apartment being warm, cozy and homely. It is a short & pleasant walk down to the centre of Whitby along the sea front. It is Ideally located for exploring Whitby without the need to drive around & find parking. You receive a free parking permit which enables you to park right outside of the building so parking is not difficult or costly. An excellent stay, and would highly recommend. I would definitely return.
Georgeous apartment at whitby Positive: Great apartment very spacious, lovely comfybeds, had everything we needed. Clean and tidy. very tastefully disigned living area. There was scaffolding on the building itself as the were doing essential repairs to the roof but that didnt impinge on our stay atall. Very impressed with this apartment and will most deffinatly stay again. Lovely kitchen hamper on arrival. Negative: While all the shops and marina are only a short walk down in to the centre the unavoidable walk back could be quite tricky if you had mobility issues as it is very steep to get up to west cliff itself. Worked wonders on my calf muscles though.
Relaxing weekend stay Positive: Great location with brilliant view of sea and abbey in the distance. Unfortunately unable to use the balcony due to some scaffolding but we understand some work is being done to maintain this marvelous historic building. The apartment is very nice and has everything you need for self catering although we ate out for our whole stay. Parking outside with a permit provided, easy walking distance to all bars and restaurants

Avoid - False Advertising! Positive: 1. Good location 2. Large shower Negative: 1. Advertised as “Boutique Balcony”. However the balcony was surrounded by heavy scaffolding, alongside being plastered with bird poo and left over stuff from the previous occupiers. Please see the enclosed pictures. This was NOT mentioned in the advertisement. Not being difficult here, but would appropriate to inform people of this, especially when it’s advertised as ‘Boutique Balcony’
Nice location nice apartment but you need a better cleaner Positive: The location was perfect for us Negative: Floors and rug were dirty and the vacuum cleaner didn’t work properly When we booked there was nothing said about the work being done or that we couldn’t use the balcony which had not been cleaned in a very long time full of pigeon mess and rubbish. The cleaner also left their used vape for us on the dirty table 😐

We will definitely not be returning - When renting out properties the Biggest thing is cleanliness ! Positive: Location was good, everything in walking distance. Negative: We were so looking forward to staying here for the 4 nights that we had booked. On arrival the apartment complex overall was very untended and needs a lot of work doing to it. On entry to the building it smelt damp and not very clean at all. I had to wash my hands as soon as I got in the apartment each time as the doors and stairwell felt grubby to touch. On entering the apartment it looks nice, until we noticed that it hadn’t been cleaned, the bedroom side tables and the windowsills were dirty - we cleaned the main bedroom and had to hoover before we could put anything away ! The dining table had cup stain marks on it - I wasn’t prepared to clean this as we weren’t going to use it ! We had to clean the side tables in the lounge and also wipe all the kitchen surfaces and the cupboard doors, I even had to clean the kitchen sink and sink drainer, before I could use them. The glasses in the cupboard had to be washed before we could drink out of them. We are so glad that we took our own cups to drink a hot drink from. We had to hoover the lounge kitchen and bathroom also before we could take our shoes off. The shower was full of hair in a corner and had to clean the sink. We were very very disappointed in the cleanliness of the apartment as we had been charged £40 for a professional clean before we arrived. We were informed that the apartment had been cleaned and that this would be mentioned to said Cleaner !. I clean houses as my profession and to be charged and told it would be clean was so disappointing. We were advised that it was a self catering apartment, which we get and understood, but to have to clean up after the previous guest/s is not on. We can’t express how much we were looking forward to staying here but to be let down by the cleanliness is a Big No No, and it spoilt our trip. I have requested a refund from the owner for at least the £40 for the Professional Cleaning Service that we were charged for, but got no reply. Very unprofessional.
A lovely little trip. Positive: Excellent location. Cosy and comfortable apartment. Excellent price especially for goth weekend. Negative: The scaffolding up around the balcony wasn’t ideal but there was a little note from the hosts apologising for the inconvenience. It didn’t put a dampener on the stay at all though.
I would never book a holiday with Host and Stay. Positive: Unfortunately, we had to rate the property low in order to write our own comment. We never actually stayed in the property due to the incompetence of Host and Stay. Negative: The company ‘managing’ it. If this property is privately owned, I would seriously suggest that the owner use a different company to manage it. The attitude and incompetence of the staff I communicated with when trying to pay for the stay was very disappointing. We were left with no other option than to book another property with a different company 1/2 hour before setting off on our holiday, adding stress to our relaxing mini break.

Welcome pack was great. Negative: Building is a little dated and there were roof repairs going on. Although this didn't affect our stay directly, apart from restricting the view and use of balcony but I understand they were out of the control of the owners.

What we got was a first impression when pulling up on a beautiful sunny day was a run down tired building with scaffolding around it ! Granted the apartment itself is modern and clean as advertised but the balcony and view was very disappointing with no prior notice or apology. The owner has taken the gamble on not letting people know to prevent cancellations prior to arrival. We booked the apartment purely based on the balcony and sea view pictures and certainly got neither ! Had this been a hotel I would be looking for re location, refund or compensation but after being put on hold when trying to complain the line cuts off ! The owner is aware of various complaints re the scaffolding and has chosen not to highlight this for obvious reasons. Overall we had a good stay. The location is great for the beach. The apartment is on the 3rd floor and is a good climb up about 70 steps. The lift wasn’t working for the first few days and a resident of the building advised us not to use it. The apartment was quite dusty when we arrived. The host offered a cleaning service that we declined, we just got on with it. We managed to park right outside the building which was good. Overall, good.

We cancelled another apartment for this feature, so this should be mentioned on the website before any consumer gives the hard earned money over.

Apartment was in a nice location and the basics were fine. However, once booked I received a message saying in order to get the check in details I needed to pay either 1. £25 damage waiver which was non-refundable or 2. £250 security deposit which was refundable minus a £10 admin fee. There was a free car park outside the building, however, it was first in first served...so not a guaranteed carpark as implied on the listing. The hamper provided on arrival was a nice touch HOWEVER I would have preferred washing powder/detergent and more than 1 roll of toilet paper to be provided instead. We were given 1 roll of toilet paper for 3 people for 3 days and upon asking the Host, we were that was all they provided and that we would need to go and buy more ourselves - in the previous 12 months of travel this is the first place I have stayed at that I was instructed to buy my own. Table and surfaces needed to be wiped down on arrival before we could use them.
Dirty bedding, unmade beds, rubbish inc. dirty nappies left, wet towels on the floor - took hours to clean the property to a basic standard. Didn't sleep in the beds on the first night - had to go out & buy cleaning products to make the property habitable. Very poor communication from 'Host & Stay' - made no effort to resolve the issues. Shockingly bad!

The apartment itself was a great space in a great location, and the welcome hamper greatly appreciated, however, an out of bounds balcony due to undisclosed building works, was a bit of a shame
Positive: Location was great, plenty of parking space and parking vouchers were provided by the host. Negative: Communication with the host could be improved. We were informed that there was scaffolding outside the building for roof repairs, which wouldn't affect the interior of the property. However, since the property is advertised with a sea view, we requested photos from inside to ensure the scaffolding wouldn't obstruct the view. Despite sending 6-7 emails and making a phone call, we never received a definitive response. Each reply simply stated that we would be contacted later, which never happened. As a result of this lack of communication, we missed out on booking other properties as their prices increased, and we lost our cancellation rights. We decided to keep our reservation. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we found that the balcony was not accessible due to the scaffolding, and it was also very dirty. Additionally, the sea view from the balcony was completely blocked by the scaffolding. This was quite disappointing, especially since the sea view was a major factor in our decision to book this property.
Pity about the roof being missing. Positive: Location Negative: Roofing contractors replaced the roof while we were there. It was dangerous. We could not use the balcony because slates were falling on it. The kitchen flooded when it rained after the builders removed the slates. It was very noisy.

Interesting old lift! A short walk from the centre, but this made it quiet and with a clear view of the bay. Grateful for welcome hamper and parking permits. Negative: Found the bed a tad uncomfortable, though that's probably just different to what we're used to. Otherwise nothing.

Negative: charged £250.00 plus £10.00 admin fee for any possible damages etc. had to pay 2 weeks before arrival and have to wait further 2 weeks for it to be refunded If I had known this at time of booking would not have booked this property.
We had a lovely couple of nights .great location, very clean apartment, well equipped . We were able to sit and eat breakfast on the balcony too which was a lovely treat in March !
Lovely property for a great weekend stay in Whitby Positive: The property was in a great location with good views of the sea and Whitby Abbey. It was very clean and had everything needed, good shower, well stocked kitchen, dishwasher etc. There was a bonus of a balcony with views of the sea and Abbey Negative: The beds were very uncomfortable, the mattresses were literally just 6 inches thick foam. It felt as though you were lying straight on the wooden bed slats.
Positive: Beautiful very comfortable apartment. Well equipped and in an ideal location for exploring Whitby. Negative: Unfortunately the lift wasn't working during our stay which isn't the fault of the owners. Also there was building work being done next door which was noisy at times. Again this wasn't the fault of the owners but it was annoying at times.
Positive: Great location. Log burner was great but had to provide own logs. Should be stated on website. Negative: Deposit, have to wait up to ten days to get back.

A very convenient apartment close to the sea and only a 10 minute walk into the town Positive: Location was excellent Negative: Balcony door, has been mentioned a few times.
