Welcome to Bluebell Cottage, a beautifully presented countryside retreat located a short drive from Rochester and Otterburn. Set within peaceful surroundings with far-reaching views over rolling fields, this stylish four-bedroom home is perfect for families, groups, and business travellers looking for comfort and relaxation in the North East.

Nestled on the doorstep of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, Bluebell Cottage is perfectly placed for unforgettable stargazing. Spanning 572 square miles, the park is one of Europe's largest Gold-Tier protected dark sky areas, where visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the Milky Way and, on clear nights with favourable conditions, may even witness the magical Aurora.

At the heart of the home is a modern L-shaped open-plan living space, designed for both comfort and sociable living. It features a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and two inviting seating spaces, all positioned to take in the stunning countryside views through large windows that fill the space with natural light.

On the ground floor, there is a flexible bedroom with two single beds, which can be arranged as a king-size bed upon request at the time of booking. A convenient downstairs bathroom adds extra ease for guests.

Upstairs, the spacious master bedroom offers a king-size bed, a stylish ensuite bathroom with a freestanding bath, and glass doors showcasing spectacular rural views. The second bedroom also includes a king-size bed, while the third bedroom is furnished with a comfortable double bed. Each bedroom is furnished with comfortable linens and ample storage space. Two modern family-bathrooms complete the first floor.

Outside, guests can enjoy a private patio area with Hot Tub and a large enclosed garden, ideal for outdoor dining, relaxing in the fresh air, or safe play for children.

Next door to Thistle Cottage, Rochester, that can also be booked through Host and Stay increasing the number of Guests to 16.

The area

Rochester is a small, picturesque village located on the historic route of Dere Street, the Roman road that once connected York with Scotland. Visitors can explore the remains of the Roman fort of Bremenium, which stands on a commanding hillside overlooking the surrounding countryside. The village is also close to the Pennine Way and St Cuthbert's Way, making it a popular destination for walkers, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts.

Just a few miles to the south lies Otterburn, a charming village steeped in history. It is best known for the Battle of Otterburn, fought in 1388, one of the most famous Anglo-Scottish border conflicts. Today, Otterburn is a peaceful rural community offering welcoming accommodation, traditional pubs and easy access to Northumberland's spectacular landscapes. Rochester and Otterburn offer a gateway to some of the most beautiful and unspoilt landscapes in the North East of England. Surrounded by rolling hills, ancient forests and wide-open moorland, the area is renowned for its tranquillity, dark skies and rich history.

Also nearby is the bustling city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, which guests may enjoy visiting. Newcastle Airport is a thirty minute drive from the property.

Within a thirty minute drive from the property, guests may like to travel to the towns of Rothbury, Crageside, Jedburgh (Scotland) and Kielder Forest.

Getting around Rochester by public transport is fairly straightforward, though services are more limited than in the city centre, so planning helps. Guests may enjoy local cycle and pedestrian routes to explore the local countryside.

Most local travel is done by bus. Stagecoach and Go North East operate routes connecting nearby villages with Newcastle city centre, Ponteland, and surrounding suburbs. From Rochester, you’ll typically travel to a nearby main stop or interchange before continuing into the city.

For rail travel, the closest major station is Newcastle Central Station, about a 20–30 minute drive depending on traffic. From there, you have fast connections across the UK via National Rail.

The Tyne and Wear Metro is one of the easiest ways to get around once you reach Newcastle. Key stations like Kingston Park, Regent Centre, and Bank Foot offer park-and-ride access, making it simple to leave the car and travel into the city or towards the coast.

Taxis and Uber are also widely available in the area and are often the most convenient option for short local journeys.

If you’re staying in Rochester, having a car is useful, but public transport is still a solid option for getting into Newcastle and exploring the wider area.
