Had a lovely short break at Austen House. Lovely spacious and light property - perfect for a family of 6 to spread out. Location is fantastic - central and parking permits worked well. Beds and sheets were very comfortable. The only areas for improvement would be the basement had a bit of a dog smell - maybe some air fresheners / diffusers would be good as appreciate it is a dog friendly property. Also the yard has the bins stored so we didn’t really use that for sitting as again, bit smelly. Overall fab few days in a central property!

This was a lovely house to stay in with all the amenities you need, the only slight downside was that the house is over four floors so tricky with small children and no stair gates and for people with reduced mobility

Annual family visit 8 of us aged 10 to 61 and everyone loved the location and the house. The kitchen is a fabulous welcoming space very well equipped with everything we could need and more.

If you find yourself looking for a great place to stay in Whitby, don’t look any further than Austen House. Great location, every single amenity you can think of is provided, we are visiting from Australia and had a family get together somewhere different. The kids young and old enjoyed all the games provided and sat together around the kitchen table enjoying quality time. Sorry to rabble but just returned home and miss the place already.

A fab spot for a family break Positive: The house was perfect for a family. There was plenty of space for children to spread out and a lovely, more formal living room for the adults. There were all the essentials and more to ensure we were comfortable, and the location was perfect for strolling back and forth to the main attractions in Whitby. Negative: There was a small discrepancy in the parking information provided. The website states that two parking permits would be provided. However, on the app and on arrival, we discovered that there was only one. It was not a massive issue with a pay for car park very close by, but something to take into consideration as the parking fee for our two night stay was quite large.

Austen House was a great place to stay. There were two families with 4 kids in total and it never felt cramped thanks to the abundance of space. Kitchen was excellent, living areas were a restful break, bedrooms were great sizes and the location was perfect for exploring all that Whitby has to offer.

Fantastic location and sized house for group getaways. Positive: Fantastic location. Great size lounge with enough space for everyone to sit together Negative: There were not enough forks for all our guests- when we raised this we were told that more would be dropped off (but after we left). This made it tricky to all eat together. The parking permit wasnt available as expected- but plenty of free parking on the nearby road. No spare loo roll or hand soap - we easily bought some but would have expected this to be provided to last a weekend.

Great stay with friends. Positive: It’s in a great position and was very well equipped. It’s beautifully decorated and has an outside seating area. Negative: We loved the property and are planning a return trip next year. It would have been lovely to have seat pads in the kitchen as we spent most of our time around the kitchen table. Oven gloves would be great too, sorry if they were there and we didn’t find them.

Book this place it really is a Beautiful place to stay 5***** Positive: Exceptional House. 6 of us (3 couples) stayed from 30th December 2024 for 3 nights. All rooms were spacious clean and very tastefully decorated. The house was warm and very welcoming to the eye when you first arrive. beds were comfortable, and bed linen was carefully chosen and matching and spotless, everywhere was spot on. We wouldn't hesitate to book this House again. Well done to the owner Austen House is a Great place to stay. 5***** K,T,J,C,H,T. Negative: Only issue we found was there wasn't enough serving Bowls in the Kitchen, we did cook some meals and the lack of Large serving dishes was apparent - other than that the kitchen didn't lack anything.

This is a beautifully appointed house. Lovely high ceilings and big windows. Furnishings very smart and comfy. The basement kitchen diner is a particularly charming room as it has a lot of light for a basement. There were 5 of us over the four bedrooms and we did not feel cramped or short on facilities.

It’s only really the parking that would put me off staying again. The bathroom facilities could be better but probably w Positive: Good size for 8 people. Comfortable. Negative: The parking situation. Plenty of places to park but so busy had to park a long way from the property.

A bit disappointed Positive: The location Spacious accomodation Comfy beds Negative: Felt like they were a bit mean with basic provisions. Only 1 bin bag provided, family of 8 staying 4 days, preparing meals e. c. t 1 bin bag not enough. No recycling facilities all rubbish goes in same wheelybin hence kitchen bin filled up quickly. No dishcloth /sponge provided to wash pots, or wipe down surfaces/table or clean the hob with. only 1 tea towel for family of 8 staying for 4 days. Dishwasher provided but some pots we needed to wash. 1 inch of washing up liquid provided, no hand soap or hand towel. Supply of toilet rolls didn't last 5 minutes. Property didn't look or smell very clean. Very dusty in lounge, kitchen lights thick in dust, cobwebs. Dirty washing left on washer. No washing pods, just an empty tub! Didn't expect for price we paid to have to go out buying bin bags, dishhcloths, toilet rolls, e. c. t

Great place to stay. Had a fab weekend. The kitchen area is a great space for communal entertainment. The living room similarly is set up really well and 8 people can comfortably hang out together. Few issues including a door that was coming away from its hinges and a towel that had some strange burn marks on it. But overall very high standard of quality and cleanliness. Would stay here again.

Wonderful house where we had a fabulous Christmas. Clean, a big space for a large group and very comfortable. Right in the town centre so perfect for popping into town.

Lovely house needs a little bit of love! Positive: We had a lovely stay at the property over the Christmas holidays. It’s a beautiful house, the location is fabulous. We had views of Whitby Abbey from our bedroom. The welcome fizz and Christmas Tree in the lounge were a nice touch. Negative: A couple of negatives that could have been improved on, the lamp in the hallway was broken, the electricity socket for the lamp and TV in our bedroom didn’t work. Also the remotes for the bedroom TVs were missing. We found a selection of remotes downstairs but all needed batteries. We all agreed that the pillows in the bedrooms were rubbish, missing protectors and generally didn’t offer any support. There was also a half used, dirty loo roll in the basement loo. Finally the house is ready for a deep clean, very dusty behind the TV, furniture etc.

We have stayed in and around Whitby at this time of year for the last few years, love the Christmas feel and it’s not too busy. This is the perfect location!!!! The house was cosy and had everything we needed for a fabulous stay. In fact this is the best equipped house we have stayed in. Would absolutely recommend, hopefully we will be back soon.

Location was great. Needs two parking cards as a large place and you wouldn’t be going one car. Pay and display close by but an additional cost. Great place but wouldn’t use again due to dog smells.

Austen House at Whitby was a home from home stay. Everything that we needed, very spacious, lots of stairs! Grandad bagged the nearest bedroom! Beds were comfy. Gorgeous huge sash windows... we did struggle to have these open in the warm weather as the dog would have probably tried to jump out. We were really panicking over the parking but we got 2 spots straight outside the house. An amazing base to explore Whitby. A walk to Sandsend (or bus!) to visit The Hart pub is a must. As is The Stables just outside Whitby. Crabbing on the pier for the kids! Would definitely return.

A fantastic house, just a very short walk away from the shops, bars and restaurants of Whitby. Situated on a very quiet side road with parking right outside the front door it was a great place all round. The house itself is across 4 floors so be mindful of that with very young children or those with mobility issues. House well equipped and beds comfortable. Great that dogs are welcome too. Highly recommend.

This was a perfect place to stay for a weekend in Whitby. The location is ideal, as it's walking distance from the centre whilst being far enough out that it feels peaceful. Great value home with good amenities.

If you have mobility problems this may not be the best place to stay. It’s a lovely town house over 4 floor, with kitchen in the basement. Lots of stairs! There was very little toilet roll or hand soapbut we had towels and the kitchen was well equipped. Comfortable bed, tastefully decorated and very well located. Really clear and helpful instructions and info regarding the house, parking and local attractions. Highly recommended. Would stay again.

Absolutely perfect Positive: Stayed for 2 night, absolutely beautiful! The beds and pillows were a dream. Had a travel cot and night chair also. Sofas were very comfortable. There is a car park across the road for a small fee. I will 100% be staying again, I didn’t want to leave! Less than 5 mins to walk to the arcades etc on the front. Pictures don’t do it justice

Perfect for a girls weekend away. The first AirBnb we've stayed in as a group that we didn't want to leave. There was plenty of space and toilets/showers. We felt together but not on top of each other. We especially enjoyed the kitchen with wood burner. spent most of the time in the house, sat around the table. What a cosy space! We didn't use the front room as it was too formal and not inviting to us. However, it was a beautiful room.

Positive: *Location was perfect *Size of rooms *Beds were comfortable, Negative: *Parking * Middle bathroom basin a little too small * No Electric in kitchen sockets for 24hrs no access to microwave,kettle,extractor fan or any other sockets * Downstairs maserating toilet was broken and wasn't able to be fixed so we wasn't able to use that and as a group of older people it became an issue with climbing the stairs * Top floor room hot tap wasn't working and needed to be fixed * Radiator in top floor twin bedroom had been turned completely off plumber had to turn it on with pliers * Kitchen utensils were dirty, *Used teabags were left in teapot which was in the cupboard supposedly clean * Only seven sets of knives and forks were available and there was 8 people * Cobwebs found in the bedrooms on second floor *Oven floor was disgustingly dirty Had to clean before we could use it * Front room fire grate when guard was moved was filthy with dust looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months *TV screen dirty *Cleanliness overall was average, floor especially

The house is great and really convinent for big groups, but some details were frustrating Positive: Location in Whitby is great. House is very spacious, and can easily accommodate 7+ guests. Hosts were easily contactable and responsive. Negative: Arrived to find dirty cutlery in the sink and dirty crockery in the cupboards. While on street parking permit is offered, the parking situation in Whitby isn’t good and the parking zone was rammed on our arrival, meaning we had to pay to park in an overnight car park for the first night. Only provided 4 partially used loo rolls for a 4 day stay, with no further supplies offered.

Positive: location was good, near all the tourist attractions. Negative: The house was extremely dusty and as an asthma sufferer it was difficult.

We had a brilliant time! It was the perfect set up for 2 families and loved being so close to the town as everything was Positive: Brilliant location and plenty of space for us all. The rooms worked perfectly for 2 couples and 4 kids. Negative: Parking was difficult due to the regatta but we found a space and didn’t need to use the car!

Sunny weekend in Whitby. Positive: House was lovely, set across 4 floors with the kitchen on the lower level, lounge & then 2 bedroom & a bathroom on the upper 2 levels. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, there is a very high demand for parking so had a bit of a walk. The location is quiet yet walking distance to the shops etc. Negative: All was great for our little party of 4. Perhaps ensure potential bookings are made aware of the number of stairs!?!

There are better properties for the kind of money they charge for this property. Positive: It was in a good location. Negative: The property was dated , shabby in need of a refresh . It was not clean - the oven was filthy, the microwave had not been cleaned. The kitchen floor was filthy and sticky. Not impressed.

Fantastic house and location, although parking was a bit tricky for two cars! Positive: Lots of room for us all to relax without being on top of each other. Great how close it was to Whitby seafront. Negative: Could have done with a hoover but had to make do with a dust pan and brush, just for a few crumbs, but a hoover would have been easier! Parking was difficult for two cars, luckily there were multiple local residents who offered us assistance, so kind of them 🥰

Definitely recommend, perfect location. Couple minute walk from the beach. Positive: Very spacious and location was brilliant for us! Property was clean and modern. Also plenty of bathrooms to choose from. Negative: Nothing! Although somebody with mobility issues may struggle to use the stairs as the kitchen is downstairs. Parking was a struggle, streets were very narrow. Small Private car park opposite the house which is good if you can get in it. We unloaded and park led a few streets away, luckily we didn’t the car each day. Wouldn’t put me off and would definitely stay again.

This is the second time we have stayed here and it was still as perfect as the last time we came a year ago. The house is exactly as described and has to be the best equipped we have stayed in. The location is perfect for a weekend in Whitby with shops restaurants and pubs literally on the doorstep, although the location is very private and quiet. Would definitely recommend and we are hoping to stay again.

Lovely home, clean and well laid out. parking not ao good, permit provided although it was hidden in the draws and took some finding. parking with permit was the hard part as at the time you get to check in all parking in w zone is full and remained full for the weekend, had to park else where. the car park next to the house has very bad reviews in getting ticketed when paying online, so had to go further afield. other than the parking the house was perfect

Positive: Central location & space & little touches like the welcome basket & all the games & jigsaws were much appreciated. Negative: One of the showers was very slow to empty & some, but not many areas, could do with a more thorough clean.

Overall we had a great time staying at Austen House! It's really nice and spacious and a good location for being able to walk to lots of places around Whitby. Easy to check in with the keybox too. Parking was a bit tricky on the day we arrived as it was a Saturday and streets quite busy, but most other days during the week we were able to park in the streets nearby using the permits or find some free parking a few streets away.

Positive: Well presented and decorated property. Location good and well equipped. Negative: Too many stairs for older people. Disappointing outside area, not clean. Socket not working in top bedroom. Clean enough but paper under bed and roll top bath. Keysafe was hidden by basement shutters open and could not lock it when leaving.

A beautiful house within walking distance to all Whitby has to offer. It was super clean, with everything you would need for a few days away from home. Spacious rooms/kitchen, comfortable beds, three bathrooms, well equipped kitchen. A welcomed touch was the wine, milk and cookies on arrival. The parking permits were great as we literally parked outside the door. I would definitely recommend this place, although you need to be fairly fit as there are lots of stairs!

The house was lovely, just what I expected from the images. Fantastic location, the scratch cards for parking locally were much appreciated. Overall a great stay and we will definitely stay again when next in Whitby!

Wonderful house, wonderful service Positive: We loved the house, it was very tastefully decorated and extremely clean throughout. The living room is slightly different to the image in the photos, it has been redecorated since and looks great and even better than the photos. Each room was really well kept and the beds were very comfortable too. The bath in the top floor bathroom was really spacious and great for a relaxing bath. The kitchen was also really spacious, and we loved the big family table. We loved the location, it was only a couple of minutes walk to the shops and into the centre. A really lovely property, one of the nicest holiday rentals I have stayed in. It felt like a home with every detail thought out. The complimentary wine and biscuits were also really appreciated.. The company host and stay were also really responsive to any questions and I had and provided lots of information beforehand, with a link to a website with everything you need to know about the property, which I have never had before and it made it less stressful when locating the house. The free parking passes are also a great addition and again another great personal touch. Negative: My only slight negative was the shower on the middle floor wasn't the most powerful, but it was fine for the duration of our stay. The house has lots of stairs which we were fine with, but just a note for people who may struggle with stairs. The house is an old three story property with a basement, which is typical in the centre of Whitby.

We had a lovely stay and will bear in mind for future trips to Whitby. Positive: The property is in a great location. It is well equipped and spacious. Negative: It is spread across 4 floors. The living and dining areas are on separate floors. It could do with a good spring clean.
