Great place. Loved Barney

Lovely place to stay. Perfect for 4 adults and 1 dog. Had everything we needed. Our only niggle was the hot water for showers. Maybe a user manual would help. Would recommend the property.

We were impressed with the space and its was lovely to take our family dog. Positive: Location was central to Barnard castle. Negative: The property could do with a downstairs Loo. The heating wasn't working when we first arrived.

My party and I booked this property for 3 days to attend a wedding in Barnard Castle. The property was absolutely fantastic. It was very well kept, had lovely decor, was easy to access, very central, very clean, had fantastic amenities, and felt very homely. We could not fault the property if we tried. The hosts were fantastic, very on the ball with clear instructions for check-in/check-out and provided us with a list of restaurants, takeaways, and things to do in the area by way of maps, takeaway menus etc in the property. The property had everything we needed, was very reasonably priced, and the hosts were more than happy to help with anything we wanted. We frequently visit Barnard Castle to visit family and will no doubt be booking the property again on our next visit! Thanks for an amazing trip!

82f Galgate mews. Positive: Once again the property was left for us at a very high standard. There is plenty of seating so when we had some family that visited us they were all comfortable. Negative: Nothing.

Great location, went with parents, couples could use and extra key maybe....relaxing in the center of the village, peaceful and everything you see in the pictures ..m

We enjoyed a lovely Family wedding at Runa Farm and the property was suitable for the short stay. Positive: The location as excellent - we walked into the town for some lunch. The snow made travelling difficult and our car was stuck at the property in the snow on friday. Negative: The shower in our room was luke warm. we tried many different settings but couldn't get a hot shower. There was veery little space in the rooms. We have wedding clothes and other clothes with little space.

Overall house is nice but was quite dusty, prior to coming here I read the reviews about hot water not working and messaged the host to make sure the issue had been resolved which they told me 100% the issue had been resolved, upon arrival we had just been on a long walk and wanted to shower… showers were cold, we had to shower in cold water as we had no choice and my 4 year old daughter. Host was very unhelpful regarding this problem, definitely would not stay at a place ran by host & stay again

Lovely place in a great location in Barnard Castle. Huge flaw in the bedrooms - the huge skylights in the roof of both bedrooms with no curtains/blinds. If you're a light sleeper then bring an eye mask - we were there in the middle of summer with our 14 month old who is quite a light sleeper, and as it didn't get dark til 2200 and then got light again at 0430 we didn't get much sleep.

Overall pleasant and enjoyable stay Positive: It was new and refreshing , clean and covient. Negative: We had no hot water for most of the week . I had brought my elderly parents and a downstairs toilet would have been good .

Great place to stay and great value for money.

Enjoyed our stay here while we attended a wedding nearby. Very responsive communication and the apartment was furnished with everything we needed. A few slightly frustrating parts too though, such as the lack of blinds covering the skylights in the bedrooms, the 10am checkout (which seems to have stayed a thing post Covid), and the somewhat hidden mandatory insurance costs.

Place was fine - for prospective renter, make sure you have appreciated the very high cleaning charge and also the fact that the hosts make you either pay a £25 insurance policy for any breakages or lodge a massive security deposit. In my opinion, goes against the ethos of AirBnb and didn't reflect the profile of the renters. a couple in their 50s renting a place for a long weekend is slightly different to a group of lads on a stag do.

A genuinely hidden gem of a place Positive: Very well equipped. Great lication. We kept finding little thoughtful things like throws in a seating box, games and jigsaws. Negative: A number of cobwebs up high but amusingly my mum found a very long feather duster so it kept her out of mischief getting them! Not a major issue by any means.

Accommodation fine, customer service useless, would not use company again. Positive: Accommodation was fine, if a little lacking in natural light no helped by grey decor. Excellent showers and location good for access to town. Negative: Parking was awkward. Ended up parking on Main Street. Distinct lack of welcome package usually standard on Airbnbs we have used in past. In fact totally lacking in any feeling of welcome. Main irritation was the emails leading up to entry. Suggestions to pay for extra days, early entry payments and ridiculous insurance payments all contributing to a feeling of impersonal money grabbing.

Good value for money Positive: The apartment was well decorated, comfortable, well furnished and equipped with all the essentials. It was excellent value for money and in a great location. The beds were comfortable although the mattress was a little soft for me. Bathroom was small but well done with a nice shower. Negative: There were quite a few cobwebs about and some dead insects on the windowsills. The approach to the front door was scruffy and unkempt plus there was not much parking although this wasn't a problem as there was plenty of parking on the road. WiFi was poor.

Lovely cottage the bedrooms are great size both being doubles and own en-suites. The kitchen has a great variety and is a good size. The TV needs to be reset as people have set their own logins to various streaming services and you cannot get on them and the wifi is very intermittent. Also it is advertised with a car parking space however there has been a car parked there all week so we were unable to use it. Luckily we have found a space on the road each day but if you can’t find one then it would have been an issue for us. Also meant we had to carry all baggage and luggage a bit of a distance to the car. The sofa wasn’t the most comfortable either but we couldn’t use the TV so it wasn’t too much of an issue. All in all it’s a good cottage and worth the money but a few things need tweaking really.

Positive: Location was perfect with plenty of off street parking had loads of utensils in the kitchen and plenty of room for 3 adults. Great for a short stay and being out and about a lot. Negative: Lounge chairs not comfortable and one of the bathroom doors didnt close properly.

No hot water for 3 days and nothing done afterwards with regard to any compensation or serious apology! Positive: Location Negative: We had 3 days without hot water. I was with my family including my 86 year old mother. We raised the matter straight away and nothing was done apart from a couple of phone calls from a plumber trying to talk me through the boiler (not what I should be doing as the paying customer!!) I received no compensation afterwards. I don’t think Host & Stay care about their customers. I certainly won’t be using them again.

Great stay, thank you Positive: Cosy but clean and has everything you will need. Negative: Only negative is the parking, I wouldn’t even try getting down the lane. There’s parking on the street just outside so only a 2 minute walk and it appears to be free.

Positive: Clean and comfortable. Location a couple of minutes walk from centre of town. Negative: 'wardrobe' space was coathanger stands in each bedroom. Bedside tables in one of the rooms were heavy metal fret stands with domed tops. No drawers and things slide off the top. Parking to offload requires reversing up or down the very narrow alleyway as there's nowhere to turn around if the parking space at the end of the alley is occupied by the people in the other holiday let. We always parked on the street during the stay.

It was bright, clean, easy to manage, well equipped and the position suited us perfectly. Positive: Location excellent. The house well equipped, very clean , easy to use. Negative: We were very happy with the place

Miserable stay, freezing, no heating, no hot water, wasted hours trying to resolve issues. Positive: There was no breakfast. The location was good. Negative: There was no heating and no hot water. I wasted hours messaging the person who had sent me the details and on the phone to host and stay. The host and stay person read out to me that boiler needed replaced. The thermostat did not work. The internet kept going off. The host and stay people said they would phone back and didn't. Said they sent a maintenance person out. Could not fix the problem since boiler needed replaced. We were freezing, sitting with car blankets round us. Kitchen tap ran constantly, or made constant whistling sound when turned off. The sink in one of the shower rooms was loose. There was a damp cloth left on one of the living room chairs. Both of the shower room doors did not close properly. I am going to pursue getting a refund for our miserable time there. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it.

We had no heating or hot water during our stay and left early, hence the 1/10 rating Negative: The rating we have given is entirely due to the fact that we had no heating or hot water during our stay. We had booked for 3 nights, but left after 2. A shame, because the house is fine and in a great location with 2 excellent double bedrooms, both with en-suites. It was especially galling that the hosts contacted us prior to our arrival to offer us an extended stay at a reduced rate for the extra nights – no mention that the boiler was broken and due to be replaced a week or so after we would have left. If anyone has booked here from mid-June onwards, we suggest that you check to find out if the boiler has been replaced and that heating and hot water is restored.

Have waited several days to write this review to give the owners a chance to contact us regarding a 'complaint request'. Still no reply. On airbnb we picked this property as it clearly boasts ondrive parking for 2 cars. This is not true. Not even parking infront of the property, it was the main reason we chose the property. Also for the first 24 hours there was no wifi (and there is very little telephone reception). Finally the hot water is VERY limited. We were 4 adults in the property - the water lasted for 2 very quick showers! Barnard Castle is a wonderful destination however this is not the property to choose. P.S. this is my first bad experience with an Airbnb property after many years of using the site.

Good location with only a few minutes to walk in to the centre of town but also far enough from the main road to provide privacy.

Had a bit trouble finding the place as you have to drive through a really narrow corridor and despite being told there was I had nowhere to park my car The two large panes of glass either side of the front door need to be frosted so the neighbours can’t see you sitting enjoying a cuppa whilst wearing your pjs Sofa looks really good but very uncomfortable Great location once you find it, very quiet and has everything you need and it’s only a couple of minutes of that from pubs shops cafes and places to eat so please don’t be put off by what I’ve said above

The place itself clean and tidy generally good.Parking is impossible at the property so I parked on the road outside There was a problem with the hot water as other guests have mentioned.I was only there for two nights so no chance to rectify it.

We had no hot water for showers, I rang Airbnb who then got a maintenance man to ring us re the hot water, my husband is a plumber so when through what was happening and the maintenance chap said we had done what he would do so we needed a gas engineer, who could not arrive until Monday morning, we checked out on Sunday morning. The batteries in the TV and DVD remotes were flat so could not watch TV/DVDs. Airbnb rang us at 8.15am on Sunday morning, thinking they were ringing the maintenance guy, woke the whole house up. Total disaster, the place was clean, good location but lack of hot water and batteries totally spoilt it. The bathroom floor was also lifting, probably due to a leak somewhere, the place needs some money spending on it by the current owners.

Very nice place to stay. House well presented and very clean. Check in and out was smooth. Really quiet and easy to find. Host & Stay keep me up to date with everything. Very pleased, had a great stay.

Great little spot. Only negatives really was the non-existent WiFi which meant TV was unusable due to it only offering streaming facilities. Had to park on the road all weekend which wasn’t an issue as plenty of spots available. Everything was top class. Would recommend if they can sort the WiFi.

Positive: Great, quiet location in a great, central location. Cat parking available in a very tight little spot, but that's a bonus. Two en suite double rooms. Bathrooms are very nice. Good kitchen all round. Negative: WiFi did not work at all. Rubbish. No 4G or 5G, so that was not good. Small sofa in living area not comfy. Otherwise all OK.

Avoid this property at all costs Positive: The facilities were modern and the decor was ok Negative: The WiFi was too weak to load a web page on my phone or stream TV. The Tv doesn’t have an aerial so we couldn’t use the tv at all (the WiFi extension is shared with another property). One bedroom’s blind was broken off, detached and left on the floor. The skylight blinds were out of reach and open; light came in at 5.30am to wake us up. The bedroom doors didn’t close properly from the inside. The mattresses were too soft. The toilet roll holder was loose, hanging off the wall. The floor in the bathroom was uneven and chipped. Calls, texts and emails to get help things rectified were painful… the host couldn’t answer a straight question, preferring to tell me complaints will be dealt with in 7-10 days. Bedrooms are tiny with no room for a wardrobe. Tv aerial socket in the wall had no connection to the TV. A flimsy indoor aerial in the window didn’t work at all.

Lovely property in a great location

Comfortable stay Positive: The location is perfect for us, a quiet mews, and comfortable stay. Negative: The boiler was broken on arrival and the used bed linen had been left in a bag on the stairs. The boiler was fixed within 24 hours, but we spent one very cold night with no heating or hot water. Although the problem was efficiently, we had to negotitiate compensation, which really should have been automatic.

Cosy central location everything we needed for a very comfortable stay.

82f Galgate Barnard Castle Positive: A good sized property in a quiet location ideally placed for access in Barnard castle. It was well equipped in the kitchen with everything that we required and had plenty of furniture in the lounge area. The bedrooms were a good size with both being ensuite. Being very cold overnight the heating system was easy to control to keep a comfortable temperature. Negative: The shower in the ensuite was a bit temperamental with the water temperature being on the cold side even when the control was turned to maximum hot. The television was a good size but had no live TV channels to watch news or current programmes.

Really dirty with long hairs all over shower, dust on all surfaces,surge stains on bedsheets, microwave full of curry. Parking terrible. Really cold and water like warm. Would not recommend.

The place was amazing and such a comfortable stay. The only disappointment was that we believed there would be tea/ coffee provided. In addition the showers were so cold despite checking the hot water was on. We did try to contact host and stay for support but didn’t get a call back. Such a shame because the property was beautiful and in a great location

Great little spot to stay in for a weekend away in Barnard castle. Positive: Really well equipped property. Everything you need. Fresh and modern. Ideal location. Really comfortable beds and sofas. Great host, very responsive. Negative: The property needs a really deep clean and a bit of TLC. Blinds on the velux windows in the bedrooms don’t close. Dishwasher wasn’t working. Blind was broken in one of the bedrooms. Reported to the host who said they would get it sorted asap. One of the en suite bathrooms has had a leak at some point and the flooring is all blown and spongy.

The stay in cottage was great lovely cottage, nice and clean, but only problem i had there was no hot water coudnt get a shower no instructions were boiler was,but everything else was perfect

Apartment was fine but I would never book any accommodation again with "Host and Stay" Positive: Central location in village. Recently decorated in bright clean apartment. Negative: Host and Stay appear to be letting agents used by the owners to rent out the apartment. After completing the booking on booking.com they inform you that there is an additional charge of £25 or a deposit of £250 (plus a £15 admin charge) for security. As we were only staying for 2 days this was an increase of approx 10% (this was not mentioned anywhere on Booking.com). When questioned on this Host and Stay gave some very well put together replies but maintained that if the deposit wasnt paid we wouldnt get the keys. As we were due to travel within a couple of days we had no choice but to pay up. This left a very bad taste in my mouth. The apartment is in what I would term as an alley. Nice and clean and not a problem except for the parking. Very limited in the "alley" but once we had unloaded luggage, parking on the main road just outside was not a problem. We parked there easily for the full weekend.

Very nicely presented, spotlessly clean and well appointed. A very pleasant stay and wouldn't hesitate to rebook this property.

A few issues which weren’t sorted - probably because it’s run by a company not the individual owner(s). Dishwasher already labelled saying - maintenance have been but it’s broken don’t use. 1 bedroom had a broken blind so little privacy or sleep from sunrise. 1 en-suite floor in need of repair. Windows hard to reach and open.

It was a lovely place, the only thing is in the one bedroom there was nothing to pull the curtain down.

A great stay in a lovely property in Barnard Castle, but it was tainted by misleading fees for a damage waiver or damage deposit which are payable through a third party website, which I've never come across on AirBnB before. Check in and Check out times could be more flexible too. Overall, not the personal experience you get with other AirBnB's unfortunately (i.e. they left 4 teabags for 4 people staying for 2 days).

Handy but wouldn’t stay again Positive: It was spacious. Tv had Netflix and firestick. Everything needed in the kitchen. Dishwasher. Wi-Fi. Good cafe at the front of the lane. Good location. Negative: Bedroom on the lefts bathroom hadn’t been cleaned, toilet definitely hadn’t been cleaned and used shower gel had been left in the shower. Blind in that room was broken and didn’t open. Both showers don’t heat up. Have to use the little shower head and wait about 10 min for it to be warm. Bedroom on the right had a black beanie and gloves under the bed and dust balls, clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. Window in that room doesn’t open either. No toilets downstairs which is abit of a pain as that is not described in the description of the property.

Plenty of eating places nearby Positive: Didn’t get any breakfast wondered where it was Negative: I didn’t like that we were forced to pay £25 for damages which was non refundable. I thought we’d paid enough. Also photo was taken at an angle which made it look Like a country lane. Walls could have done with a coat of paint. Bathroom floor had had water damage. It felt odd would have liked a mat over it.

Positive: Ideal location , small sitting room but nice decor and modern everything was great. Hot water wasnt the best was just warm which i informed owner quiet and peaceful so would definitely book again . Negative: Cant say i didnt like it .

Positive: Location. Very stylish. Facilities were good. Warm and comfortable Negative: Received no code for safe key on arrival. Was raining and had to call for the number. Needs a deep clean as under tables were unswept and grubby. Electric tripped on the saturday night for no reason. Found fuse box and put it on. But no hot water in the morning at all. Was checking out but wanted a shower before

The host was very communicative, the location of the property was perfect. It had all the amenities you could need. Check in is a little late but understandable if there is a swap over.

Excellent location but finer details lacking Positive: Clean with everything it states to have. Free Wi-Fi is always a plus. Rooms were nice with good furniture but they were a lot smaller than it looks on the page. Negative: Property wasn’t easy to find, but once you did it was great. The ‘parking’ is definitely not easy to locate and is very tight, small cars only. Whilst the property was clean, there were plenty of unfinished or broken parts. The flooring in the bathroom by the shower was coming away and the lock to the bathroom simply fell out of the door.

Host. & Stay terrible management company Positive: The apartment is very nice and looks quite charming 2 bed + 2 bath, decent size and decorations. Looked fairly clean and new Negative: Management company is a disaster They kept me waiting for more than 40 mins to get the check in instructions. On a Friday evening which should be pieak time for them. They also charge you a mandatory fee regardless whether you want or not insurance from them. If you dont get insurance they charge you a deposit habdling fee anyway. The deposit is 250gbp which i thonk doesnr show anywhere The heater on the house was on a timer so switched off every 2-3h. Outside was 0 degrees and the house at 1 point below 15 degrees.. I called the management company arpund 5 times during the weekend and they totally ignored me. They did actually nothing and we had a bad experience there

Beautiful place central location of barnard castle to explore Positive: Beautiful fresh looking great location Negative: No remote control for television

The airbnb was adequate at best. It does state in the description that there is a £250 "damage deposit" or a £25 "damage waiver" but this could be cleaner in the breakdown of price. As lots of other reviews mention the bedrooms both have skylights - so you'll wake up when the sun does. Blinds could be installed or an eye mask provided. There is no information about the local area or recommendations, this very much feels like a soulless agency run airbnb with a poor landlord bodge job vibe. Lots of handles are loose and the walls are very scuffed. The bathroom wasn't clean in my ensuite and there was a large skid mark in the toilet which was really unappealing. There were also cobwebs everywhere and several large spiders in the rooms. The cups and glasses were mostly dirty and had a thick coating of dust on them. Barnard Castle however is a truly lovely area.

The house is very pleasant, modern and comfortable, well stocked with crockery etc although there were only 3 glasses in each set for 4 people! Unfortunately the hot water in the shower was only lukewarm which was not a pleasant experience on a cold, damp and extremely wet break. The hosts did respond very quickly and sent an engineer however this did not fix the temperature of the shower. Still lukewarm. There is a skylight without a blind in both bedrooms, resulting in early morning wake-ups which is slightly frustrating when you are on a mini break. If you can’t fix blinds supply eyemasks!! Or recommend you take them. Other than these little irritations, the house is ideal for a break in Barnard Castle; location is ideal. Lovely cafe next door to the house and castle, shops, cafes and restaurants all within walking distance. “Barney”folk are very friendly and welcoming.

Positive: Great location, nice and roomy, everything you need for a stay, plenty of clean towels, even had tea and coffee on arrival, Beds nice and comfy, Kitchen well equiped . Very private just at the back of main street. Negative: Seating, in sitting room not the best seating arrangement, also could do with a pair of oven gloves, Parking is off road but very tight, just make sure you pick the correct bay, as shop owners on main street are not impressed if you park, not in the allocated space.. Tv did take a while to suss out, (could be cause we are older)

ok, nice property perfectly located but had much better for the money locally Positive: fantastic location and very warm. Negative: living area is poorly furnished for actual use. looks good but not at all comfortable. showers in both bedrooms are freezing, too far away from the boiler with not enough bar pressure to feed to rainfall shower heads. top tip - use the smaller shower head, at least that lets the hot water through.
