Excellent stay. Definitely recommend and will come again Positive: When we first stepped into the cottage, I fell in love with it straight away. I loved all the décor, everything matched well and it was just really cute and cosy. I imagine it would be really nice in winter as well. I felt safe and felt relaxed. The bathroom was massive and really spacious and everything was clean. The beds were comfortable enough and the rooms were well presented.. It was spacious and plenty of facilities and resources to cook with in the kitchen if needed. There was also a washing machine. The garden was lovely to sit out in both on a morning and a night. It was super close to the beach which was ideal for us even if the walk up the hill did nearly kill us off so be mindful of that if you have mobility issues. We also found a little obstacle course around the corner from where we were staying which the kids enjoyed. The opposite neighbour was really nice and friendly. Towels and toilet rolls were provided. A few people said the key was hard to find. I found it well but took a few goes to figure out how to open it to get the key out but I did it eventually. When I messaged for support or had any questions, they were really quick to get back to me. I will definitely book to stay here again

We have really enjoyed our short stay at 1 Coastguard Cottage with our two grandsons. The cottage was just what we needed in a great location. We had a lovely stay! Thank you!

Lovely stay - parking needs improving Positive: The location was fab, minutes away from the beach but still nicely tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Lovely little house, plenty of space and clean. Negative: The beds weren't very comfortable in my opinion, bouncy but hard! I had to battle with an ENORMOUS spider getting the keys which were located in a small shed. The kitchen taps are labelled wrong so I spent half an hour running the tap to wash up waiting for hot water, only to realise I had the cold tap running! Parking was a problem. We stuck to the guide book which indicated there was a drop off space right outside, which there was and was very handy, but it was strictly a drop off pace. We were told there would be 'Parking Scratch Cards' which would allow you then to move to any available nearby street parking. Firstly, we weren't provided with any scratch cards, however, even if we had had them, being so close to the sea front getting a space to use the scratch card was extremely limited! Even so, I got in touch with the host website to enquire about the scratch cards, Each day I was told they were looking into it - needless to say, we never got any scratch cards. I was also told to park in the designated parking spot...............but the designated parking spot was for drop off only and blocked a whole row of houses if we were to have parked there all weekend! My partner had to spend around an hour each day moving the car and making sure to do so at certain times so as not to get a ticket as it is located in a disc zone which would have been resolved had we ever received any scratch cards!!!!!!!!

Property is lovely, newly decorated, big enough for a family of 4, nice decor, great location Lovely property, very clean and newly decorated, perfect for a family of 4, lovely large bathroom. Excellent location and views of Scarborough. Everything you could every need was provided, although would of liked full length mirrors in bedrooms, oh and a washing up bowl, so not end of the world! Parking was good for location, however I definitely wouldn't recommend this property for anyone with mobility issues, steep garden entrance to front of property, and steep stairs inside. I would definitely come back again, it was very nice

A great find, and well worth the money. Positive: We booked for 2 nights at Easter but i could easily have stayed for a week. The property is clean, well presented, and has everything you need. The “secret” garden is a hidden gem with fantastic views, and i don’t think the booking websites advertise this enough. It was amazing to sit and have a morning cup of tea or evening glass of wine with the sound of the birds singing and great views. Even the garden at the back of the property is so much more beautiful than the pictures show. The property is in a lovely area near the castle. It’s up the hill so be prepared to walk up and down a lot. The Scarborough Arms is a lovely local pub serving nice food, with lovely staff too. I will definitely book to visit this beautiful accommodation again. Negative: I was originally a little put off by the damage waiver and i think it would be best if Hotel & Stay hid this in the price instead of hounding for payment. But now i’ve been on the holiday, it wouldn’t worry me.

Comfortable and cosy cottage in wonderful location Positive: Excellent location, quiet but near harbour, beaches and castle. Warm, cosy and comfortable cottage. Generous provision of wood and kindling for the log burner. Lovely garden and outside space (if only the weather had allowed us to use it!)

Positive: The Holliday home was so lovely clean and tidy not a bit grubby at all loved everything about it best place ever everything in the kitchen you need and more to cook food even a down stairs toilet that was a bonus Negative: Nothing to complain about

A nice place but make sure you get the parking permit. don’t park at the church overnight it’s not allowed Positive: It’s lovely Negative: The parking and being given false information about where was ok to park. And no permit being provided despite being told it would be. Then it taking a month to be reimbursed

The only thing I was left wanting was more time in such a beautiful place! I had to drag myself away with the promise that we’d come back. We’re in the middle of a heatwave - honestly I can’t imagine a holiday anywhere in the world being as beautiful. The countryside right alongside the great North-East coast is difficult to beat in good weather.

Rustic Stay The property was quaint, but hard to find. It has a lot of stairs to the bedrooms which can be hard for some that I didn't notice in the review.

The property has some great features—high-quality crockery, plenty of storage, and a well-equipped kitchen, which made cooking easy and enjoyable. However, there were a few disappointments that impacted our stay. While the upstairs was generally fine, the downstairs living area was a real letdown. Upon entering, there was an unpleasant odor coming from the living room, which became more noticeable when coming downstairs. It quickly became clear that the sofas, throws, cushions, and rugs were quite dirty and in need of a deep clean. Additionally, there were a few missing essentials: no toilet roll in the downstairs bathroom and the main bathroom's toilet brush had no handle. These small details made the stay feel less comfortable than expected. Overall, with some attention to cleanliness—especially in the lounge area—this could be a great stay.

Lovely place, but I won't be staying with "Host & Stay" again. Positive: The decor of the property was beautiful, and it was pleasant to stay there. The garden and surrounding area were very picturesque. Lots of walks around the area and very close to the church Very close to town, although the walk back is tough (steep hill), it's worth it. Beautiful views on both sides of the house with the castle and gardens, the seafront, and cliffs. Very breathtaking! Negative: We asked if we could come earlier than 4 pm, if the place was ready and we were told no. But after struggling to find the property at around 3ish, I called them, and after asking for directions, we asked if we could go in earlier. They checked and said yes, the cleaners are all done, so you can go in now... if you couldn't allow us to check in earlier by message (about 30 minutes before we called, so find it hard to believe) at least maybe message us back later to say that it was ready rather than a message saying that we can't check in earlier as cleaners will be there until 4pm to ensure the property is clean to their standards (which later in the review, becomes relevant that is isnt extensively cleaned)... We assumed, with it saying on street parking, it meant it would be relevantly close to the property. It wasn't. The drop-off location was directed to us incorrectly by a person who worked at Host and Stay because they didn't know either and thought it was the big green area. We parked there but soon realised we couldn't directly get to the property. So, we had to go round the brick wall, which endured more hills (we had two very little children with us, and Im disabled so this was difficult for us). We then had to walk down the path to find wheelie bins blocking the path. Assuming this was maybe bins had been empited recently, so we moved one to the side so we could continue walking on the communial residential path (This bit becomes relavant later...). We eventually found the property, but we had no clue where the key was. I remember seeing about it being near a shed, but I couldn't see a shed. We found a black key box on a brick wall opposite the property, so we tried that key pad. A neighbour came out and kindly directed us to the right one. Inside the outhouse at the front which, the key box was in, but it was surrounded by lots of spider webs and big spiders, which I'm glad my husband was with me, that's for sure!

Overall, lovely property. The property was very nice, but the downstairs areas smelt quite musty / greasy cooking smells. The property was clean. It was a bit of a nightmare checking in, with a lady on the phone assuring me that details would be provided, but they were not. I had to make a further call to obtain the details. The front entrance to the property was a little difficult to find. The rear door (through which entry could not be gained) would benefit from a sign pointing guests round the row of terraces to the front door.

What a beautiful cosy cottage, very well decorated and lovely furnishings. Idyllic location, close to the beach.

Fantastical time had in sunny Scarbie! great location and absolutely lovely place.

Was okay. Positive: Very clean. Perfect location. Negative: All 3 mattresses was like sleeping on concrete. The pillows were awful. We had the worst nights sleep that we’ve ever had. Struggled to find the cottage as it’s a very tight and small opening. There should at least be a sign saying ‘cottages this way etc’. VERY rude & snotty neighbours. Watching everything that you’re doing , complaining about parking yet on the sheet inside the property it says you CAN park on the back IF there isn’t any parking spaces. We booked to stay 2 nights , we only stayed the 1 night and went home as we couldn’t be doing with the neighbours and the beds were just truly awful. For the price you pay , you’d think you’d get a lot more/a conformable experience A waste of money to be honest.

Positive: Fabulous cottage in an ideal location. Fixtures, fittings and furniture all of a high standard. Very comfortable we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much Negative: The guide to the cottage should also be paper not just online. This makes it inclusive for people who are not confident with online.

Peaceful stay in a beautiful, comfy cottage Positive: The cottage was beautifully decorated with a well stocked kitchen. We felt at home! The garden is lovely too. There was lots of useful information in the guide book and it was easy to understand the logistics of the house. The hosts were responsive. Negative: Nothing! Everything was great, I have given 9 not 10 because for 10 there would have needed to be something really outstanding, such as some locally sourced food provided for guests.

A beautiful house in a great location for both the north and south bays. Thoroughly recommended. Just watch out for their damage deposit policy. You either have to pay an extra £25 insurance fee on top of the rental, or if you pay a deposit of £250 they take 2 weeks to return it and charge a £10 admin fee. I’d rather they were more up-front and included it in the charges.

A lovely place to stay Positive: Unique and very comfortable for four. Negative: No parking but this is common in Scarborough, tickets and disc were provided for on road parking.

The location is perfect, a short (if a little steep!) walk to Scarborough sea front yet the cottage is very quiet and secluded. It is beautifully appointed and the elevated cottage garden is lovely.

Nice location on the headland Negative: Not issues for us but: Position is top of a steep road so not ideal for people with disabilities. Nowhere to sit out.

The property was beautiful and really well presented. Be warned it’s at the top of the hill but that’s Scarborough and the views from the top of the hill are superb. Well worth the walk with easy reach to both beaches.

This house is amazing & we didn’t want to come home. It it beautifully decorated and so in keeping with the period of the property. Spotlessly clean & tidy. The gardens are so peaceful & what a view of the south bay. There is definitely a walk up the hill but it’s a small price to pay for when you get ‘home’. A real hidden gem - would stay again easily.

Cottage itself was lovely. Nice decor. Lovely garden and surroundings. But a long walk from station and some steep hills to climb from coastline. Neighbours did not seem happy with Airbnb letting and questioned us twice when taking the back path through gardens. Single bed mattresses were uncomfortable. No welcome pack so after a long, delayed journey and a long walk we were disappointed to not even find a pint of milk to welcome us. And, then a long walk to find a shop! For the cost we had expected a little more attention to detail.
