Drift House is a three bedroom, three bath chalet set on a waterfront location on the shore of Sleepy Hollow Lake. The home sleeps up to six guests across three bedrooms. A wraparound deck is just one of the amazing outdoor living spaces. This home is a lakefront escape, where you’ll want to spend as much time outdoors as inside.
The main floor features an open concept living and dining area with a TV and a comfortable lounge for gathering after a day on the lake. All three bedrooms sit on this level: the primary bedroom offers a king bed, the second bedroom a queen bed, and the third two twin beds, well suited to kids or additional guests. Two full bathrooms round out the floor, one with a tub/shower combo and one with a standing shower.
Downstairs, a large playroom and entertainment room gives the group room to spread out, with a second TV, a dedicated kids' play area, yoga mats, and workout equipment. There is another large full bathroom on this level with a walk in shower. Sliding doors open straight onto the patio, keeping indoor and outdoor space connected.
The real draw at Drift House is the lake and the outdoors. The wraparound deck is complete with a propane fire pit, grill, and plenty of seating for morning coffee or evening drinks looking out over the water. On the ground level, the terraced property steps down toward the lake in stages. Just off the house, a fire pit and outdoor seating area set the scene for evening gatherings. A path leads down to a row of Adirondack chairs overlooking the water, and continues on to the private dock and floating dock below, where kayaks and paddleboards are ready to launch and the swimming is easy. A separate mini trail branches off to a small, sheltered cove, protected from the rest of the lake.
The Sleepy Hollow Lake community has amenities of its own, and guests are welcome to utilize them. The primary draw is the 324 acre lake, but the marina, tennis courts, and swimming beaches offer more fun to explore with your group. The river town of Athens is just minutes away and Hudson, Catskill, and the Catskill Mountains are all within easy reach for dining, antiquing, hiking, and skiing.
The area
Drift House sits inside Sleepy Hollow Lake, a private 324 acre lake community in the Catskills' Greene County, with a marina, tennis courts, and swimming beaches close by. The Village of Athens is minutes away, with river views along the Hudson and a walkable Main Street. Enjoy the view with an excellent dinner at The Stewart House. Just across the river, Hudson draws visitors for its mile long stretch of antique shops and galleries on Warren Street, plus acclaimed restaurants such Feast & Floret, Quinnie's, Cafe Mutton, and Ambos to name a few. Catskill and Coxsackie add more nearby dining, cafes, and shops. Visit Casa Susanna for an unforgettable meal, or catch a movie at Community theater. For time beyond the water, the Catskill Mountains rise just to the west with hiking trails, waterfalls, and ski areas including Windham and Hunter, making Drift House a strong home base for exploring the region in any season.
Drift House is about 2.5 hours from New York City and guests can travel around by car as it is a rural area with limited public transportation. The main routes to access the town are the New York State Thruway (I-87) or the Taconic to 9N.
In the winter, we recommend a car with four-wheel drive that can handle the snow and gravel roads.
Notes from your host
