Location, Location, Location!!!
After spending a lot of weeks in different rental homes in OBX, our week in Shades of Sand was by far the BEST we have ever had. Much of our enjoyment is thanks to the location of this property. Buck Island community is absolute perfection...we could walk everywhere, and rarely had to drive. The teens in our house loved being able to walk to Tim Buck II, Food Lion, Super Wings, beach, basketball courts, and pool. I want to particularly recommend the Michigan Pot Hole ice cream and Sangria wine slushies from the Farmers Market Stand, the Larry's Lemonade from the Philly cheesesteak shop, and the coffee cake at Lighthouse Bagels. The house also included beach chairs and umbrella setup service everyday - and was SOOOOO great, all we had to do was take our cooler and lunches! The house included everything we could ever need, and was the perfect size for our group. This is the first house we all agreed we would stay in again...and we're not the type to stay in the same place twice, so that tells you how much we loved Shades of Sand. Can't wait to return!

This is a great house. The Queen bedroom is small so three adult couples need to be aware of this. Also check the gas levels in the grill if you are planning to BBQ. We had to change out our tank before grilling one evening. Resort Realty does not provide any starter pack so bring some soaps and paper towels to get yourself the going. Absolutely nothing is provided (no salt and pepper or coffee filters #4 for the pot). The owner has reserved one umbrella and four chairs at the beach and we increased it to 2 umbrellas and six chairs. We also used the low beach chairs kindly provided by the owner at the home. The home was clean and had good quality kitchen items. It's located by the pool, tennis courts, and playground (and shopping center). Buck Island is a very well maintained development. There is a cabana before entering the ocean area. It provides restrooms and outdoor showers while you are visiting the beach. It's an excellent set-up. We were lucky to find Shades of Sand this year.
Perfect Home for our Vacation
Shades of Sand was just the right size for our family of 7. The house is beautiful, in great condition and in the perfect location. Walking distance to Food Lion and Timbuk II. The back patio is very secluded and private. Buck Island is a great community and very well kept up. We were very pleased with our vacation.
